GENERAL SUMMARY

The Community College of Denver (CCD) invites applications for a full-time position of Director of World Languages. This is a twelve-month appointment beginning August 2025. The Director can build credit certificates/degrees and customized non-credit trainings and teach courses as needed.
CCD is committed to educating its racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse student population. We are an open access college that currently enrolls over 11,000 students, the majority of whom are first-generation and from racially minoritized populations. CCD is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. As such, the Art. Communication, and Design Pathway and Department of Workforce and Community Partnerships seeks to recruit a director who has a working knowledge of creating college credit curriculum and/or non-credit language trainings for industry partners. The ideal candidate will work to eliminate our equity gap and increased the recruitment of historically underserved and underrepresented populations.
A director will primarily engage in administrative responsibilities focused on the building and maintaining of our World Languages offerings in both credit and non-credit spaces. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic success and professional development of our students and community while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The director will lead and collaborate on projects and service to the pathway and college, while collaborating with other disciplines and departments. This position reports directly to the Dean of the Arts, Communication, and Design Pathway and is tasked by the Center for Workforce Initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary administrative duties:
  • Scheduling and staffing World Language credit courses
  • Develop and administer placement assessments to ensure world language students enroll in the appropriate course level.
  • Develop and administer prior learning assessments to ensure students have the opportunity to earn credit for college level learning-experiences outside of CCD.
  • Collaborate with concurrent enrollment partners to foster opportunities for college level language learning at the secondary level and establish seamless pathways for continuing education for secondary students at CCD.
  • Fostering strong relationships with articulation officers and faculty at four-year institutions to ensure transferability of credits.
  • Collaborating with academic departments to create curriculum in other languages/with English support
  • Implementing initiatives to increase student awareness and utilization of transfer pathways.
  • Analyzing transfer data and outcomes to continuously improve transfer success rates.
  • Advocating for policies and partnerships that promote smooth and accessible transfer experiences for students.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the academic division, aligning curriculum with institutional goals and community needs.
  • Supervise relevant faculty and staff, creating a collaborative and supportive work environment that fosters professional development.
  • Develop and manage the academic budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation for programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee curriculum review and assessment processes, implementing data-driven decision-making to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including student services and workforce development, to create opportunities for student success.
  • Represent the academic division at college-wide meetings and events, actively engaging with stakeholders and community partners.

Curriculum Development Duties:
  • Lead the development and evaluation of the continuous improvement of academic programs, ensuring they are aligned with industry standards and best practices.
  • Identify and implement innovative andragogical approaches, incorporating technology and active learning strategies to enhance the learning experience.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty across the system to develop courses, revise curricula, and ensure program coherence.
  • Foster collaboration with the Center for Workforce Initiatives and external partners to create relevant and responsive language programs that meet workforce needs.

Teaching Duties (as assigned):
  • Maintain an active teaching role to stay connected with the student experience and curriculum implementation.
  • Contribute to specific academic programs as needed, demonstrating expertise and leadership in your field.
  • Share andragogical expertise with colleagues through professional development workshops and mentorship opportunities.
  • Facilitate trainings for internal and external constituencies.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Education:(Minimum/Required)

M.A. or higher in Spanish; M.A. or higher in foreign languages with emphasis in Spanish; M.A. or higher in foreign language teaching or pedagogy with emphasis in Spanish; M.A. or higher in bilingual education with emphasis in Spanish, native Spanish speaker with an undergraduate degree from a Spanish-speaking country and M.A. or higher in foreign language teaching or pedagogy.
Experience: (Minimum/Required)
  • Experience teaching at the college-level
  • Experience teaching online

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: (Minimum/Required)
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Demonstrated use of ACTFL proficiency guidelines and the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages in the classroom.
  • Familiarity with proficiency assessment.
  • Experience in teaching in adult learning settings.
  • Skilled in working with students from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Practice addressing issues of equity and closing the equity gap in the classroom.
  • Familiarity with building relationships with industry partners and community outreach approaches.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (including Teams).
  • Familiarity with an online learning management system such as Desire to Learn to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of high levels of initiative with minimal supervision needed.
  • Experience working with industry partners and professional organizations.

Experience: (Preferred)

  • Experience in college-level language program administration or translation/interpretation pedagogies for language Acquisition or Spanish for professional uses.


  • Experience developing non-credit curriculum and/or trainings for industry partners and/or professional organizations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: (Preferred)
  • Ability to teach an additional language.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience using Open Education Resources (OER).
  • Knowledge and/or experience with grants

PERA is the 21st largest public pension plan in the United States. PERA is a substitute for Social Security; CCD employees do not contribute to Social Security. PERA eligible employees are required to contribute a fixed percentage of their salary to the pension. Student employees are not eligible to participate in PERA.
