Responsibilities:
Operations Training is responsible for operation, technical and safety training for hourly and supervisory titles within the Department of Subways. Our training programs are developed in collaboration and to support the work of departments within NYC Transit Training is provided on title specific responsibilities, in addition to training on new equipment and new initiatives.
The Director position is responsible for managing Superintendents, Field Operations induction, refresher and New Technology Systems Qualification training for Dispatchers, Tower Operators, and Rail Control Center employees. Responsibilities include working closely with the Operating departments to coordinate their training objectives; developing training curriculum and materials; and reviewing the efficiency and effectiveness of the induction classes to ensure the best practices are being used for our employees. collaborating with the Union, Human Resources, Timekeeping, and Crew Assignment Section; working with the Senior Director and Superintendents within the department to restructure, develop, and implement changes to the training curriculum; representing the department as subject matter experts at meetings; and providing analysis of operational trends with possible solutions for improvements that are fundamental to the incumbent's success. Must be able to conduct practical's in train yards and climb on/off trains, walk elevated structures, subway tracks and tunnels.
Education and Experience:
A Baccalaureate degree in in Transportation Management, Organizational Management, Public Administration, or a related field and eight (8) years of full-time related experience, of which five (5) years must have been in managerial and supervisory capacity.
Or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
Desired Skills:
Knowledge of Transportation and Operations rules, policies, and procedures.
Strong management, problem solving, customer service, and administrative skills.
Adaptable and flexible with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment to foster new initiatives.
Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in Excel, access, Microsoft Office computer programs.
Selection Methods:
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.
All appointments, with the exception of department of Subways employees on MaBSTOA payroll, will be made on NYCT payroll.
