How can you make an impact?
The Portfolio Management Director (PMD) develops the strategic vision and plans for the higher education portfolio of products in alignment with global business and strategic priorities. The PMD deeply understands customer needs and continuously assesses the market and competitive environment for new product opportunities to drive growth. They encourage a culture of ideation and innovation. They are responsible for driving growth across the portfolio through the development of new products or product enhancements.
As the lead for product strategy and execution, the PMD leads the team of Portfolio Managers and works closely with colleagues in Marketing, and Sales to deliver market-leading products with customer-driven "go-to-market" strategies. They partner with Content Development and Production to modernize and optimize the product development and launch process. The PMD is accountable for the overall financial performance of the higher education portfolio and is responsible for decision-making and management of the overall plant and expense budget supporting local product development.
This is a hybrid role located in Toronto, Canada.

The pay range for this position is between $100,000 - $110,000 CAN annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan is provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.

What can you expect from the position?
- Customer Insight - Ensure products and services meet current and future market needs through customer insight and deep understanding of the market; Champion customer-facing research to predict and evaluate present and future customer needs; Proactively assess gaps in product offerings and propose strategies to address them.
- Product Development - Ensure products and services meet current and future market needs through deep understanding of the market; Understand how McGraw Hill's core competencies and existing product lines and services can be leveraged in new and innovative ways throughout development.
- Financial Management - Determine appropriate allocation of investment across the portfolio; Lead team to build business cases to support market-driven product innovations or enhancements; Determine appropriate revenue projections for the product and consult with key stakeholders to establish budgets to ensure profitability hurdles are met; Create and present a strategic plan that supports organizational goals of profitable growth and digital innovation.
- Relationship Management - Work effectively across teams to execute product strategies and develop and launch products and services; Develop and maintain relationships with customers, prospects and subject matter experts who will help inform product development.
- Change Management & Innovation - Embrace a culture of risk taking and innovation to build a pipeline of new product ideas and process improvements; Help guide MH's ongoing transformation through new product innovations and process redesign and optimization.
- Team/Talent Management - Lead and support a talent management program focused on enabling team to drive revenue growth through consistent and regular use of coaching, performance goals, and facilitating appropriate training. Attract, recruit, train and retain high caliber staff, managing the allocation of human resources in alignment with the business need.
What can you bring to the role?
- University degree or equivalent; MBA and/or other professional designation desirable.
- Minimum 5-8 years of business experience in product or brand management, product/services development, sales or marketing and preferably in the higher education market.
- Strong financial acumen and decision-making skills
- Proven success in growing market share and revenue through the development of business plans and identification of market opportunities
- Experience leading and motivating the work of others. People management experience required.
- Passion for education and technology enabled learning.
