Purpose:
Responsible for managing and supervision of an established RF/Microwave design organization focused on ground-based Satellite Communication products. Also performs RF engineering work and applied research, development, and design of new products and technologies. Recognized as an emerging authority in RF/Microwave design, specifically in TWTAs operating from L-band to Q/V-band and beyond. Working knowledge of common high frequency manufacturing techniques. Directs the preparation of proposals for new processes and products. Works with upper management to determine new products and technology roadmaps. Teaches, trains, and enforces the established operating procedures governing the engineering process. Often represents the company as a customer contact regarding significant technical issues.
Responsibilities:
- Guide and direct the efforts of engineers, technicians, mechanical and printed circuit board designers, along with test personnel to achieve project technical and schedule goals.
- Research and direct the implementation of components and techniques to create advanced microwave and millimeter-wave Traveling Wave Tube Amplifiers (TWTAs) and Block Up Converters (BUCs).
- Be familiar with and oversee overall system design including frequency planning, cascade and spurious analysis. Direct and work with all engineering disciplines to make sure product thermal, power supply, software, and customer interface and monitoring requirements are met.
- Prepare system specifications, budgets, schedules, and design related documentation. Maintain and update as needed.
- Direct department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, production techniques, and develop test procedures.
- Work well with factory production personnel and supervise the transition of new designs into successful products.
- Analyze technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.
- Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
- Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
- Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
- Provide direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.
- Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly.
- Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.

- Directly supervises several employees in the engineering process. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to the engineering staff, company management groups, top management, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draws valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Requirements:
- Significant experience with RF/microwave/millimeter circuit designs and components from L-to V-bands including TWTAs and frequency converters.
- Experience in TWT and GaN amplifier technology and linearizer circuits and techniques.
- Design history of various components and subsystems such as power amplifiers, combiners, mixers, multipliers, filters, low phase noise PLLs, VCOs, and synthesizers.
- Working knowledge of linear, non-linear, and EM simulators such as Keysight ADS, Genesys, Ansoft Designer, HFSS, AWR Microwave Office, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge and experience with Power Supplies and digital control circuitry/software and associated development tools for complex RF/microwave and high voltage TWTA subsystems.
- Capable in sub-system frequency planning and spurious analysis, satellite communication experience desirable.
- Proficient with standard microwave test equipment such as Network and Spectrum Analyzers, Noise figure Meters, etc.
Education and/or Experience:
- BSEE (MSEE a plus) and 10 years minimum experience.
