Director of Sales Engineering

Location: Kansas City, MO (Corporate Office)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic Director of Sales Engineering to lead and guide a geographically diverse team of Sales Engineers (SEs). This role involves partnering with Regional Sales Leaders to foster collaboration among Sales teams and SEs, driving revenue growth and achieving quota targets. The Director will oversee SE activities, including training, RFP responses, complex opportunity design, and technical sales support. Occasional travel required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Training (35%): Provide clear direction, build strong inter-departmental relationships, and offer ongoing training on technology, products, and processes.
    • Ensure the Sales Engineers have a clear and concise direction of the expectations, roles, responsibilities, and goals that were distributed by the VP/RVP of Sales Engineering
    • Build and maintain strong relationships and communication channels within all Segra departments
    • Provide consistent and ongoing technology, product, and process training to your SEs keeping the team educated on available services, industry trends, and competitive landscapes within geographic selling areas
    • Partner closely with local market Sales and Operations Leadership to instill a unified goal of maximizing new revenue attainment and market fiber footprint expansion
    • Assist with client escalations to ensure a positive customer experience
    • Utilize strong technical knowledge and financial acumen to assist Sales Engineers to process workflows through appropriate systems
  • Operational Support (30%): Ensure SEs act as co-leaders, validate design requirements, and assist in successful customer activations. Monitor deliverables and ensure CRM accuracy.
    • Ensure SE's are acting as a co-leader within each market and consistently maintains expected office hours
    • Confirm correct design requirement questions are being proactively utilized to ensure all specifications are gathered to build a solution that is superior to the competition and Segra can successfully install, activate, bill, and service
    • Validate Sales Engineers are acting as a liaison between Sales, Operations, Project Management and other teams to assist in successful customer activations
    • Regularly attend customer meetings with Sales Engineers to qualify Segra's capabilities are accurately and ethically being conveyed through approved designs and cost-effective solutions
    • Monitor Sales Engineering deliverables to qualify that they are accurate, detailed, and completed properly
    • Assist SE's to create high-quality customized logical drawings, fiber route maps, project overviews, statements of work, and RFP responses
    • Ensure Sales and SE teams are leveraging full suite of products and service offerings
    • Spot check Sales Engineers to validate CRM fields are correctly being completed
    • Confirm directives are followed closely by the SE team to create standardization of process, procedures, and provide consistency across all markets
  • Team Management (35%): Lead, coach, and manage the SE team. Set individual goals, conduct reviews, and provide career guidance. Recruit and onboard new team members.
    • Lead, teach, manage, coach, and be approachable
    • Establish individual team goals that align with the VP's organizational objectives
    • Perform ongoing observation of your team by utilizing training, scenario role play, and test questions to track growth and maximize strengths/skill development
    • Host consistent weekly conference calls with your reporting team
    • Conduct quarterly documented reviews with each member of your team
    • Provide career path guidance for SE team members
    • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new team members
    • Consistently attend Management conference calls to stay current with events, requests, and expectations
    • Influence company culture by always presenting a positive attitude
    • Offers coverage to the RVP of Sales Engineering and assists other SE Directors when necessary

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, IT, MIS, Telecommunications, Engineering, or equivalent experience. Preferred certifications: CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP, MEF.
  • Experience: 8+ years in Telecommunications with pre-sales technical support or 3+ years in Sales Engineering leadership. Strong knowledge of network design, cloud environments, and voice services. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mapping tools.
  • Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines. Strong leadership and relationship-building abilities. Adaptable and positive attitude.
