Summary:
The Sourcing and Procurement organization is accountable for driving and delivering Procurement value to support stakeholders' and organizational strategic objectives.
The Director, Sourcing will focus on the development and deployment of global category strategies and initiatives. Responsibilities include leading our major supplier relationships, developing deeper relationships with the stakeholder groups through business partnering, driving RFI/RFP processes for supplier evaluation and selection, and ensuring that process improvement and procurement activities deliver the expected value.
The role covers all aspects of research, clinical trials, manufacturing, and in-scope administrative activities for supplies and outside services.
This includes leading projects tied to the category strategies to deliver value to the business, the implementation of sustainability programs with vendors, and complex contractual negotiations.
The Director will lead a team of two professionals and work closely with the legal team. This role will have high visibility across the organization, so the ability to effectively communicate with Senior Executive leaders is crucial.
Primary Responsibilities:
Education/Experience/Skills:
Position requires a BS in Finance, Engineering, Economics, or relevant field, and at least 13 years relevantsourcing and procurement experience in the biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry, including experience with the regulations associated with the pharmaceutical industry; an MBA or Master's degree with at least 11 years' experience is preferred.
Specific knowledge, expertise, and experience required in sourcing clinical trial services, research studies and services, laboratory equipment, supplies, and services, IND-enabling CMC development, and cGMP manufacturing.
Additional required experience includes category management, project management, influencing, and business partnering. Must have proven track record of negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, and driving cost savings initiatives.

Expected Base Salary Range: $190,000 - $220,000
The actual salary will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications, including skills, competencies, education, and experience. - Sourcing and vendor selection
- Partner with key stakeholders, advising on and driving sourcing strategies
- Advise on contracts and agreements for the supply of products and services
- Drive RFP process for supplier evaluation and selection
- Develop negotiation strategies and lead complex negotiations that require a detailed strategic plan and have a direct correlation with Xencor's operational and business goals
- Drive measurable outcomes by delivering hard and soft savings
- Develop appropriate SLAs / KPIs to track performance
- Create a multi-year road map of opportunities
- Cost Optimization
- Drive cost optimization initiatives through supplier negotiations, volume leverage, and process improvements
- Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising product quality or reliability of supply
- Negotiate vendor rate cards, volume discounts, bundled discounts, performance-based financial bonuses / penalties, cost-saving measures, and cost-avoidance measures
- Maintain an active understanding of industry trends and functional practices through participation in industry organizations, bringing knowledge to the team and stakeholders
- Analytics and Category Management
- Lead implementation of category plans to ensure that process improvements and procurement activities deliver value in accordance with the strategic plan
- Develop long-term strategic plans for the agreed scope of spend category, with a focus on delivering broader value, innovation, and savings
- Ensure a data-driven approach to category management and high-quality analytics to deliver insights, capabilities, and results
- Create a short- and long-term pipeline of savings and TCO projects which will deliver savings and TCO benefits to Xencor on a sustainable basis
- Supplier management
- Support the team in strategic relationship management (SRM), ensuring category strategies are aligned to our business needs, and maintain a supply base that can support these strategies
- Evaluate and develop a supplier base and partnerships through strong SRM to create a reliable and long-term source of supply
- Procurement operations
- Oversee requisitioning process and ensure timely approvals and generation of Purchase Orders
- Conduct analyses to improve and streamline processes
- Function as steward of Procurement policy; ensure compliance across the organization

- Knowledge of Procurement tools such as sourcing, quotation analysis, contract negotiation, supplier review, supplier development and others
- Strong knowledge of finance (cost benchmarking, financial audit with key suppliers) and legal matters (contracting)

- Being a trusted partner for Legal colleagues and the ability to provide valuable insight into potential risks across all types of agreements

- Thorough understanding of the research and drug development process, incl. clinical trials, drug manufacturing, Phase I through Phase III
