As our Modality Director for Vascular Labs (VL), you will lead all aspects of the strategy and execution of VL R&D projects and technology trends at Canon Medical Research USA (CMRU). This includes developing and executing organizational short-term objectives and long-term strategies, and overseeing the budgeting, planning, resourcing, and other factors of managing the VL R&D team and its deliverables. You will also serve your team as the main interface between our parent company in Japan and will collaborate with cross-functional teams in other Canon Medical group companies throughout the world.
Our modality team directors are critical to the overall R&D strategy for Canon Medical. They are well-versed in technology trends, competitive trends, market conditions, and system design. Their teams consist of algorithm scientists, software engineers, and in some cases, systems/detector scientists. Additionally, they work closely with the hardware, FPGA, mechanical engineering, and clinical teams to ensure cohesive project planning and delivery. Finally, our directors represent Canon in the scientific community and at conferences globally.
In addition to leading the VL R&D team, you will be a member of CMRU's senior leadership team and play an active role in driving company-wide strategic and operational initiatives. This compensation information is a good faith estimate and provided in accordance with state law. The base salary generally ranges between $222,590.00 - $272,055.00 annually. This range is an estimate based on an applicant's skills, experience, training, and other business and organization needs.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Develop and lead the overall R&D strategy for VL at CMRU, including technology strategy and system design, budget management, staffing and hiring strategies, vendor and collaborator management, and operational excellence.
- Oversee design and development of 2D fluoroscopy and DA image quality algorithms, 3D conebeam CT algorithms, imaging chain optimization, and system dataflow optimization.
- Optimize ongoing operations to achieve maximum efficiency and incorporate learnings from other CMRU departments and teams.
- Align with key stakeholders across Canon Medical group companies to achieve success in the overall VL roadmap.
- Establish regular meetings with key stakeholders to update on progress and solicit feedback.
- Work closely with regulatory teams on product clearance efforts.
- Promote and foster a mindset of continuous growth, rigorous exploration, and teamwork for internal teams.
- Work closely with senior leadership team members to define and execute company-wide objectives.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Master's Degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related STEM field (Ph.D preferred).
- 10+ years of experience leading an R&D product development teams focused on VL under FDA, EU, or other major country regulatory guidelines.
- Experience with building and developing highly functional teams.
- Experience with global leadership and effectively working with different cultures.
- Strong knowledge of training & developing people.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Experience managing direct and indirect teams in an environment that embraces continual learning and change.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and digital.
- Demonstrated ability to think outside the box and rigorously explore.
- Some domestic and international travel required (approximately 20%).
