Summary of Position

Oversees operations of department. Supervises staff and implementation and administration of all programs and/or services. Works under general direction and may develop guidelines in accordance with policies and procedures for lower-level employees. Interprets and assists in the development of, or develops, regulations, policies, etc. for the guidance of other employees or the public. Supervision from above the director-level classification may be received in the form of memos, staff conferences, or other periodic communications.

Position Information

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Supervises staff; assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of assigned tasks; trains and orients new employees; approves/disapproves requests for paid leaves; interviews candidates for employment and makes recommendations for hire; evaluates employee work performance; receives and responds to grievances; provides assistance with the development of unit work procedures and policies.

Leads the team dedicated to providing data and access to information for institutional awareness, knowledge-creation, and feedback to improve processes, procedures, and outcomes of diverse types contributing to institutional success; collaborates, consults with, and advises senior leadership regarding data reporting, research, analytics, data-mining, and key performance indicators for institutional sustainability linked to the strategic plan.

Reviews recommendations by lower-level staff regarding the assigned area's policies and procedures as it relates to completion of work and/or provision of. Manages the institutions compliance with required state (HEI) and federal (IPEDS) reporting requirements; provides dissemination of compiled research reports and oversee completion of external surveys.

Serves as the IPEDS Keyholder, performing as a liaison between the federal government and applicable YSU administrative offices; directs the institution's interpretation of Higher Education Information System (HEI) data file specifications and guides the development of internal data tables, files, datasets, and processes to build a data structure to automate the routine compilation of data files for required submission.

Works collaboratively with leadership to optimize YSU's reporting platform to support both visual and tabular reporting for required reports, accreditation, strategic planning, assessment, analysis, and predictive analytics.

Supervises the day-to-day functionality and assumes general oversight of the assigned area's operations and services as related to any assigned program, initiative, or objective. Directs daily tasks related to the full scope of a department's/division's overall programs and/or services. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for reporting processes that ensure data integrity; improve existing data collection strategies and develop new approaches and procedures to guide institutional data governance

Reviews and/or monitors records of daily tasks in accordance with the department's/division's (or University's) policies and procedures and assures timely communication with supervisor, staff, and students where appropriate.

Provides both operational and summary data to the YSU community. This includes, but is not limited to, routine data requests by the Provost, Deans, chairs, and others for program review, accreditation, reporting, and other needs. Provide information relating to academic programs, curriculum, students, faculty, staff, and other areas of the University.

Prepares for and attends events.

Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; participates in staff development activities; attends meetings, conferences, and other events.

Other Functions and Responsibilities: Assists with training new hires.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday. Potential for remote work.

Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over staff and students.

Qualifications and Competencies

Knowledge of: University policies and procedures*; office practices and procedures; department/division goals and objectives*; department/division policies and procedures*; workplace safety practices and procedures*; English grammar and spelling; records management; office management; project management.

Skill in: Use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division*.

Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor's degree in a related field; four or more years of related experience. One or more year(s) of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in data analytics, data science, business analytics, or a related field. Five or more years of experience in a higher education, or related setting; two or more years reporting data to state or federal agencies. Experience developing and deploying dashboards, metrics, or key performance indicators; experience developing comparative data sets.
