Starting Pay Range -

LPN - $31.72 - $34.29 /hour
RN - $43.27 - $47.02 /hour

Job Summary:

The Substance Use Disorder Nurse position is a nurse with a valid Washington State license as a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse, providing treatment to individuals with substance use disorder seeking treatment services. Treatment includes but is not limited to medication dispensing/administration, intake, assessment, evaluation, admission, triage, medication induction, stabilization, teaching and monitoring.

The Substance Use Disorder License Practical Nurse position is a nurse with a valid Washington State license as a licensed practical nurse (LPN), providing treatment to individuals with substance use disorder seeking treatment services. Treatment includes but is not limited to medication dispensing/administration, intake, assessment, evaluation, admission, triage, medication induction, stabilization, teaching and monitoring.

Locations of this position may include NorthStar clinic and other locations as directed by the Medical Director and/or Director of Nursing.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for inventory/safe counting and proper documentation of used/unused medication;
  • Safe and efficient dispensing of buprenorphine and methadone. Including pipette dispensing as needed when computers are down;
  • Maintain all paperwork/charting requirements as established by laws or agency by use of the certified electronic health record system;
  • Complete admission paperwork for all new/courtesy dosing clients and enter orders from physician correctly and in a timely manner;
  • Utilizes sound clinical judgement and the nursing process for assessment/triaging of client conditions;
  • Ensure the use of Evidence-Based (EBP) for all screening, assessment, and interventions;
  • Assist and comply with all policies and procedures to prevent diversion;
  • UA and breathalyze clients as necessary;
  • Monitor tuberculosis testing for all clients and assist with making referrals as necessary;
  • Serve clients in a culturally competent, client-centered manner and ensure activities adhere to Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS);
  • Frequent fast paced and challenging situations. Potential for occasional exposure to conflict and/or aggressive behavior;
  • An occupational exposure to human blood, blood products or otherwise potentially infectious materials;
  • May be required to work in various locations with in Clark County to include schools, jails, shelters, and the main clinic including North Star and Center for dual Diagnosis and recovery;

Non-essential Job Functions:
  • Attend all staff meetings as required;
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor;

Education, Licensing and Experience:
  • Valid Washington State license as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse required
  • Valid CPR Certification
  • Prefer at least two years of experience in direct treatment of people enrolled in a medication-assisted treatment program

  • A strong commitment to working collaboratively, assertively and interdependently with co-workers
  • Must possess nursing skills such as injections, assessments, blood draw, medication dispensing, etc.
  • Good communication, decision-making judgment and computer skills
  • Ability to work with community partners in a rapidly changing environment
  • Competency in: clinical treatments of substance use and addictions, co-occurring disorders, individual crisis intervention; professional ethics, and patients' rights
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have access to a car, have a valid driver's license and current auto registration
  • Ability to pass background checks for Jails and School if assigned to an offsite location
