In this role, the Distribution Manager also mentors and monitors department lead to ensure that products are accurately received, stored, picked, and shipped on time, in good condition, and in the safest manner possible. Additionally, the manager ensures that the leads meet overall productivity, quality, and safety performance goals. The position mandates adherence to all safety rules and regulations in accordance with industry standards. The Distribution Manager collaborates with all departments to ensure the smooth operation of the supply chain and to meet operational and financial objectives.

The Distribution Manager is responsible for strategically managing productivity and driving efficiency across multiple operational functions within the distribution center, from receipt to distribution. This includes overseeing and planning product receiving, warehousing, order fulfillment, shipping, inventory management, and transportation management. In this role, the Distribution Manager also mentors and monitors department lead to ensure that products are accurately received, stored, picked, and shipped on time, in good condition, and in the safest manner possible. Additionally, the manager ensures that the leads meet overall productivity, quality, and safety performance goals. The position mandates adherence to all safety rules and regulations in accordance with industry standards. The Distribution Manager collaborates with all departments to ensure the smooth operation of the supply chain and to meet operational and financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Inbound and Outbound Flow
Receiving Product
- Oversee that the supplier delivery schedules are maintained.
- Ensure the receiving team adheres to the company-established receiving procedure and a 24-hour receiving cycle.
- Ensure that all incoming shipments from suppliers and the branches are checked for accuracy against purchase orders, including correct quantities, product specifications, and condition.
- Ensure the receiving department reports all quantity discrepancies and incorrect product deliveries to the purchasing department immediately upon receipt.
- Enforce company quality control protocols to identify and resolve damaged or defective goods upon arrival.
- Oversight of all Buyout requests, including scheduling LTL pickups and ensuring timely pick up from the vendor.
Storing Product
- Enforce company-established put-away processes to ensure products are put away in a timely manner and stored in the appropriate storage location
- Ensure storage products are correctly stored, such as with proper stacking to reduce potential damage or a possible safety hazard
Shipping Product
- Oversee order fulfillment processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness, thereby ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Arrange multi-branch drops per truck in sequence by destination and orchestrate deliveries to meet branch demand with little to no delay
- Communicate with the affected branches about any potential disruptions in delivery schedules.
- Access daily workload (RRAR, Backorder, Will Call, Sold).
- Enforce the company-established picking procedure and ensure pickers adhere to it.
- Ensure effective quality control processes are adhered to diligently
- Investigate and resolve issues related to misdelivered packages, incorrect shipments, and misplaced inventory.
- Collaborate with branches to coordinate Will Calls and customer pick up.
Inventory Management
- Oversee inventory management processes to ensure accurate stock levels within the Distribution Center.
- Ensure inventory is stored in a logical, accessible manner based on demand, size, and frequency of use
- Enforce regular cycle counting schedules to maintain inventory accuracy and quickly address discrepancies
- Communicate with inventory control and the purchasing department about any unusual inventory shortage and associated adjustments.
Transportation
- Facilitate the shipping of materials from the Distribution Center to branch locations and ensure routes are secured to and from the Distribution Center
- Track third-party shipping costs to help keep freight charges under control.
- Maintain vehicles in a safe operational mode to be compliant with OSHA and DOT/CDOT.
- File reports of accidents, illness, and injury to the Director of Human Resources.
Warehouse Management
- The George T. Sanders warehouse must be managed and operated according to industry standards.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes respect, communication, and collaboration.
- Provide leadership and direction to all Distribution Center teams to achieve operational excellence.
- Make employment decisions and recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, terminations, and pay adjustments. Manage employee performance, provide coaching and mentoring, administer performance reviews, plan and implement employee training and skill development activities, and generate and communicate supply chain operational goals
- Oversee the maintenance and update of operations metrics, including KPIs and productivity activities, with the Distribution Center by utilizing data analytics and system reports.
- Review of the daily productivity report to help encourage efficiency and excellence
- Attend a quarterly Meeting with the Purchasing and Inventory Control departments.
- Perform quarterly distribution inspections with the Director of the Supply Chain
Safety Management
- Ensure storage areas comply with safety and regulatory standards, such as proper stacking, labeling hazardous materials, or maintaining fire lanes
- Maintain accident and safety reports
- Conduct regular safety audits and ensure compliance with OSHA safety training and practices
- Maintains warehouse and grounds in a safe operational mode. Check, lock, and secure the building daily.
- Review forklifts and schedule maintenance and PMs
Requirements
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Must have a degree, often in a specified subject such as supply chain management, logistics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Distribution operations or supply chain management, logistics, and inventory control, including leadership roles.
- Good understanding of inventory management and operations
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, TWL (Total Warehouse logistics), and any ERP software. Experience with CSD ERP is a plus.

- Must be forklift-certified and forklift trainer-certified

Work Environment
- The Distribution Manager works a standard work week, including some after-hours or weekends. The working environment ranges from office settings to warehouses, so the dress standards would be according to the work environment.
- The working conditions are typical of a warehouse environment.
- The Distribution Manager should expect to work alongside their employees to assist with moving material, which involves frequently standing and lifting materials and products up to 50 pounds.
- Forklift operation and the use of safety equipment, including, but not limited to, eye safety glasses, work boots, and gloves as required.
- Need to be able to withstand hot and cold work environments.
- Some after-hours work may be required. This position is on-site daily and involves regular visits to the distribution center, company branches, and other facilities
