Mission or Goal of Unit: Themission of the VCU Division of Transplant surgery is to both provide anationally ranked, advanced, patient-oriented, cost-effective and safe transplantationsurgical services and sciences, as well as to create the finest trainingenvironment for the region's future transplant specialists. The currentenvironment increasingly mandates leading both regional and national qualityinitiatives in transplant surgery.
Chief Purpose of this position: We are seeking candidates for the Division Chief for Transplant Surgery. The candidate would have a national reputation and a proven track record of leadingkey programs. They should be a master surgeon with unique skills in an areasuch as transplant liver or kidney surgery. Responsible for setting goals for research andinnovation in the science of transplantation biology including organpreservation and xenotransplantation. This is a key leadership role within thedepartment of surgery for a marque program of international reputation andwithin the VCU Hume Lee Transplant Center.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching | Faculty member will have teachingresponsibilities in transplant surgery fellows, general surgery residents aswell as medical and undergraduate students. Must be able to mentor transplantfellows with graded surgery responsibilities.
Research | Clinical research and trialparticipation is preferred. Opportunities for intramuraland extramural funding will be explored with a goal towards extramuralfunding. Collaboration with basicscience faculty in Surgery, Hume Lee Transplant Center and School of Medicinewill be encouraged.
Clinical | Candidate should be experienced surgeon in the fieldtransplantation surgery and will be expected to maintain a practice as a memberof the VCUHS medical staff.
Service | Faculty member will serve on departmental,College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in aprofessional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer,etc. Their clinical responsibilities may be extended to a shared time betweenVCU and VA Medical Centers.

Required Qualifications:
- Board Certified in General Surgery, Fellowship Transplantation Surgery
- Current medical license in Virginia or eligibility to obtain one
- Excellent interpersonal skills with high emotional intelligence
- Ability to function in a complex matrixed environment
- Effective skills in managing conflict
- Commitment to clinical excellence, education and clinical research
- Demonstratedexperience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalismand civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from variousbackgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a facultymember at VCU
