Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Penn State Health Children's Hospital Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Hershey, PA
Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State Health Children's Hospital are recruiting a Division Chief in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
Opportunity Highlights
- Lead a team of 13 academic neonatologists, 6 fellows, and 17 advanced practice providers
- The Division includes a full complement of ancillary staff including excellent administrative support, social workers, dieticians, respiratory therapists, care coordinators, child life specialists, neuropsychologists, PT/OT/Speech Therapists, and other nursing support.
- A new 56-bed 36,000 sq. ft. Level IV NICU with a hybrid bed structure (27 single rooms, 4 twin rooms, 1 triplet room, and 3 six-bedded open bay pods) within the Children's Hospital.
- Neonatal services are integrated with Maternal-Fetal Medicine and outpatient Complex Fetal Care Center to provide perinatal services to patients of the highest acuity and complexity.
- An active ECMO program, a busy NICU Neurodevelopmental follow-up clinic, and a Small Baby Unit.
- All modes of ventilation are used, including high-frequency jet and oscillator, PSV/VG, invasive and non-invasive NAVA, bubble CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula. We provide whole body therapeutic hypothermia and have 24/7 coverage by pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiovascular surgery and a full complement of pediatric subspecialists. We have an active transport team that can provide hypothermia with a full line of intensive care during transport.
- Involvement in clinical and bench research: neonatal pulmonary disease, genetics of surfactant A protein, neonatal abstinence syndrome, neonatal hypoglycemia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, sepsis, neonatal genetics, among many other projects.
- Ready access to Pediatric Clinical Research Office research nurses, coordinators, and IRB- and regulatory specialists, as well as biostatisticians.
- Penn State was the sixteenth center to join the Vermont Oxford Network and was one of the first 10 centers to begin VON's multi-center quality improvement work in 1995. Our NICU is also involved in multicenter clinical trials.
Requirements
- Medical degree - MD, DO, or foreign equivalent.
- Fellowship trained, BC/BE in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
- Minimum 5 years Neonatal-Perinatal experience.
- Eligible for the rank of Associate Professor or higher.
- Proven leadership experience in an academic healthcare environment.
- A strong commitment to patient care, medical student and resident education, and research/scholarly activity is necessary.
