DME Coordinator

Job Summary

The DME coordinator is responsible for coordinating and advising on all aspects of the Durable Medical Department with Excelsior Orthopaedics. They will lead a team of DME specialists and act as a liaison between department staff, physicians, and clinical providers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties listed on the Durable Medical Specialist Job Description. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Be a subject matter expert on all areas of Durable Medical Equipment. Update and maintain all training documents, maintain Medicare compliance manual, review Best Practices, and serve as an educator to Clinical Staff (PAs, ATCs, LPNs, etc.).
    • Act as a liaison and facilitator for all clinical staff as it relates to patients requiring Durable Medical Equipment. Applies to patients receiving DME from Excelsior as well as though needing to be referred elsewhere.
    • Oversee ordering of new stock, maintaining appropriate levels, and reconcile inventory monthly.
    • Act as a facilitator for new products that physicians would like to have added to inventory.
    • Responsible for trouble shooting all issues that effect DME.
    • Assist in the continuing development of the DME Guidelines for the PAs, ATCs, Clinical staff, and Physicians.
    • Work collaboratively with Billing Teams to manage LCD policies and appropriate billing procedures.
    • Maintain Medicare compliance and DMEPOS provider manual.
    • Act as a patient advocate always, especially if/when billing issues arise.
  • Manage team of direct reports.
  • Work with HR and leadership to interview, select, train, evaluate, and provide performance feedback.
  • Review and audit patient charts to evaluate and determine the level of care provided meets compliance requirements.
  • Coordinates regular staff meetings to ensure communications are effectively transmitted and received; interprets and explains practice policies, procedures, objectives, operations, and service organizations.
  • Handles other tasks as needed.


Qualifications

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required with at least three years' experience in a DME Specialist (or similar scope) role.
  • In lieu of a bachelor's degree, 8+ years' experience in similar role is required.
  • Active NYS Athletic Training license and credentials preferred.
  • Experience leading a team and/or project.
  • EMR Experience required; MEDENT preferred.


Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to provide patient care and operate equipment
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range to observe and communicate with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Position requires full range of body motion including ability to position and move patients.
  • Work environment may involve some exposure to hazards/physical risk.
