We are looking for a Mechanical (Marine) Engineer to join our team in Chesapeake, Virginia. The Mechanical (Marine) Engineer is assigned to one or more vessels in the LPD 17, LSD 41/49, or LHD 8/LHA 6 ship classes. The Mechanical (Marine) Engineer assists in the development and technical review of Diesel Engine technical documentation, including documenting and scheduling Diesel Engine maintenance actions.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate diesel engine maintenance with the ship's maintenance team, regional maintenance centers.
- Represent the ISEA at integrated project team development meetings, conferences, work package reviews, and industrial support visits.
- Maintain life cycle maintenance plans for assigned vessels.
- Monitor vessels life cycle maintenance, performance data, and reciprocating engine analysis testing compliance.
- Coordinate to ensure that condition-based maintenance requirements are planned for upcoming availabilities.
- Review and submit technical reports, work specifications, and maintenance procedures.
- Evaluate departure from specification requests and submit to the appropriate technical authority for resolution.
- Develop and implement maintenance policies and procedures to ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and repaired.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure that parts and materials are available when needed.
- Ability to understand and implement maintenance policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in marine or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum Experience: Four (4) years of experience in the development and technical review of Diesel Engine technical documentation.
- Preference will be given to personnel that are USCG Licensed Marine Engineers with sailing experience or personnel that have experience with US Navy diesel system or propulsion plant inspections/assessments (i.e. Builders, acceptance and final task order trials, DEBA, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to perform work in engine rooms and onboard ships while underway.
- Able to climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs., sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance.
