At Western State Hospital, we're looking for anRegistered Nurse 3who can inspire, mentor, and provide exceptional care at the Civil Center.


At the Civil Center, you'll provide nursing to patients experiencing acute psychiatric illnesses, physical illnesses, and/or unsafe behavioral concerns. As a Nurse Supervisor, you'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to drive innovative care strategies, ensure the highest standards, and support the development of junior nurses. You'll also have a direct hand in shaping the future of healthcare, where patient-centered care is at the heart of everything we do.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Supervises nursing staff, promoting a recovery-oriented model of care and ensuring adherence to hospital policies and nursing standards.
  • Audits nursing care to meet Nursing Standards and CMS requirements and participates in treatment planning to advocate for patient needs.
  • Guides staff in using data to improve care delivery, fostering evidence-based solutions.
  • Supports continuous learning through in-service training and promotes professional growth within the team.
  • Facilitates team collaboration, resolves conflicts at the lowest level, and communicates policy updates and standards of care.
  • Ensures adequate staffing based on patient care needs, activates fact-finding as needed, and consults with HR or nurse managers for next steps.
  • Administers medications and treatments, responds to high-risk situations with therapeutic interventions, and orients patients to the ward environment.


Who should apply?

  • Professionals with possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington and graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing;ANDtwo years of professional nursing experience.

OR

  • Equivalent education/experience.


Additional skills, knowledge and abilities we are looking for:

  • Psychiatric nursing experience is preferred but not required.
  • Preferred ANCC certification in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing.
  • A strong commitment to patient-centered care, always prioritizing the well-being and dignity of those we serve.
  • Extensive experience in patient care, including complex case management and critical decision-making.
  • Operation of office equipment to include telephone, copy and fax machine, computer and various computer programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team, both verbally and in writing.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, maintaining composure and delivering high-quality care under pressure.
  • Confidence in mentoring and leading nursing teams, with a passion for fostering professional growth in others.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development, staying current with industry trends and best practices.


Additional information

  • Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
  • Pierce County employees receive a free Orca card for transportation use.
  • Work Schedule: 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM, working 40 hours per week and rotating Saturdays/Sundays
