Job Details

JOB SUMMARY: ELMHC is responsible for providing early childhood mental health consultation support to Family Services programs including staff, children, and families. Supporting programs in classrooms and through training and coaching of staff; screening, assessment, and referral service support. The ELMHC will also collect data, maintain records, and support compliance in all facets of Grant Reporting, Performance Standards and State regulations. The mental health consultant will support programs including CDC, Teacher Apprenticeship, Little Haven and additional Family Services Programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • General Classroom Observations, Consultation & Coaching:
    • Conduct in person or virtual classroom observations based on need identified by the direct support staff.
    • Provide written and oral observations and strengths-based feedback to classrooms following observations; meet with classroom teams when appropriate. Develop and implement plans as needed.
    • Provide child development information related to social and emotional development and mental health.
    • Provide guidance to staff on interpreting social and emotional screening and assessment tools and findings. Provide guidance and model developmentally appropriate activities for children and effective ways to work with and support young children.
    • Collaborate with the Education/Disabilities team, PAT Management, Safe Harbor Management, and CDC Management to identify children, staff, or families who require additional support.
    • Provide support during case management meetings and provide guidance to staff regarding how to support children with challenging behaviors in their classroom.
    • One on one support calls with sites/classrooms as needed.
  • Staff Training:
    • Support, coordinate, and provide staff trainings related to:
      • Social, emotional and mental health issues at least once per quarter.
      • Trauma Informed Care
      • Behavior support strategies
      • Staff wellness and adult mental health within the childcare and teaching profession
      • Additional trainings within training days and In Services opportunities or as needed
    • Develop and implement a monthly Q&A opportunity for staff to partake in.
    • Support PAT staff with reflective supervision.
    • Regular weekly support to each TA apprentice participants.
      • Provide coaching and training to apprentices in a distance delivery model that will include traveling to the apprentices' classrooms, video calls and observations, phone calls and other virtual learning options.
      • Responsible for delivering and organizing the on-the-job training for their assigned apprentices.
  • Programmatic Consultation:
    • Participate in meetings.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of mental health program and policy.
    • Lead a staff wellness committee to promote a positive work climate and identify beneficial staff supports to reduce burnout
  • Parent Training:
    • Provide support and resources for parent trainings as needed and develop parent resources around family and child mental health and wellness
  • Individualized Child-- and Family--Centered Observations & Consultation:
    • Conduct observations and assessments of individual children as assigned or referred for consultation.
    • Meet with families to consult on child and family needs and create or follow up on plans to support these needs.
  • OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Contributes to federal, state, and local reporting requirements
  • Completes, submits, and tracks all mental health documentation items on appropriate forms and within databases.
  • Utilizes systems to complete job duties (TEAMS, SharePoint, Procare, Trakstar, etc.)
  • POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or hours vary with location. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

    TRAVEL:
    Travel is primarily local during the business day. Moderate travel to and in rural Alaskan communities, including travel by small airplane and alternative ground transportation is expected.

    EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass state and federal background checks for convictions of violence and child abuse and/or neglect, including fingerprints, and maintain compliance with Criminal History Registry.
  • Master's degree required in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
  • Clinical license or certification as a Mental Health Professional. With a minimum of 2 years direct experience in a mental health setting providing prevention services and/or mental health therapy to children and families.
  • Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.
  • Knowledge of child development from birth to 5 years of age, specializing in mental health.
  • Must attend 15 hours of professional development training annually.
  • Proven ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving and decision-making and perform basic assignment with little or no direct supervision while also working effectively as a team member.
  • Experience planning, developing, assessing and administering program services for children and families; work as a member of a team to assess the quality of services and develop program services.
  • Demonstrated intermediate level of computer skills necessary to use and create documents and reports, spreadsheets, workshop materials and slide presentations, and to enter data into intricate database programs and proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook.
  • Must keep all matters concerning participants in strictest confidence as required by HIPAA privacy and the 42 CFR, Part II confidentiality regulations.
  • Must provide a TB screening and basic physical exam within thirty (30) days of hire with follow-up every three (3) years at employee's expense.
  • Must complete and maintain CPR and First Aid Training certification at employer's expense.
  • Must have valid Driver's License and proof of insurance or must have acceptable alternative transportation
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to meet work schedule requirements.
  • PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience working with Alaska Native cultures and communities with strong competence in multi-cultural environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, TEAMS, TrackStar etc. software.
  • Knowledge or experience in Early Childhood Programs
  • Experience in providing adult training.
