PRIMARY FUNCTION: A registered nurse, who organizes, manages and provides oversight for the financial, human and other resources for all nursing operations. Creates a collaborative and efficient work environment with a focus on quality standards and the provision of quality patient care. Possesses excellent communication skills, demonstrates strong ability to work with a team, has an in-depth knowledge of the health care industry, and has excellent ability to lead and develop personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the staffing and administration of patient care services throughout the organization. Supervises the caliber of treatment and quality of patient care. Committed to the development and implementation of innovative strategies to recruit and retain quality nursing and patient care personnel influenced by current market trends and environmental factors. Maintains and promotes effective communication within the department and other departments to meet organizational goals. Interacts with coworkers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the organization Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall quality of care provided by the organization's Patient Care Service's Department
Accountable for driving initiatives and achieving positive outcomes related to patient care
Takes steps to continually improve processes that impact patient safety
Ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies on organizational and governmental standards and practices.
Takes fiscal responsibility for patient care services by continually monitoring budget revenues and expenses, and labor analytic reports and takes action as needed
Develops, evaluates and revises processes for improved productivity and increased efficiencies
Advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to patient care and related strategies
Monitors the daily operations of the nursing staff, and ensures flexing of staff according to volumes of patients/procedures
Knowledgeable of the organizations mission, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, code of ethics and has the ability to apply this understanding appropriately to diverse situations
Continually monitors performance against objectives and goals
Engages, motivates and influences staff to be active participants in patient care and staff activities
Encourages individual growth and development of employees
Regularly assesses the development and effectiveness of subordinates
Participates in the process of recruitment of permanent and per diem personnel, achieving optimal match between candidate and position.
Devotes significant attention to succession planning
Promotes rewards and recognition of employees for excellence in patient care and the patient experience
Responsible for employment decision making (hiring, termination) for patient care services
Leads strategic initiatives that promote growth and expansion of services in the Patient Care Department
Works collaboratively with senior leadership to plan, implement, grow, and evaluate the effectiveness of strategic growth plans.
Knowledge of, and ability to apply, policies and practices for planning and administering a budget.
Ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques and ability to understand, monitor, update, or enhance existing business or work processes.
Knowledge of effective measurement techniques and ability to measure the quality and quantity of work effort for the purpose of improvement.
Understanding of how to anticipate, recognize, and deal effectively with existing or potential conflicts at the individual, group, or situation level, ability to apply this understanding appropriately to diverse situations.
Knowledge of coaching concepts and methods, ability to encourage, motivate, and guide individuals or teams in learning and improving effectiveness.
Understanding of the issues related to the decision-making process, ability to analyze situations fully and accurately, and reach productive decisions.
Ability to apply organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance.
Knowledge of and ability to use industry standards, policies and procedures relevant to function and organization.
Knowledge of key business concepts relevant to the healthcare function, the ability to balance business needs with patient care priorities.
Knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry, ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL/ TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
  • Masters Degree in Nursing or Related Field Required
  • Doctorate in Nursing Practice, Strongly Preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:
  • Pennsylvania Registered Nurse
  • ANCC Certification NE-BC (Preferred)
  • TNCC Certification (Preferred)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ten years of nursing experience required to include five years' experience of hospital clinical practice, and demonstrated leadership management capabilities
  • Ability to provide effective leadership for the Department of Nursing and Patient Care Division
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field required.
  • Doctorate of Nursing Practice strongly preferred


Conditions of Employment

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University.
