Description

Excel Engineering, Inc. is seeking a goal-oriented and highly motivated Electrical Engineer with experience in SCADA system design to support capital projects for renewable energy sites. This individual must be a go-getter, who is client focused.

This position works closely with other engineers, project managers, and Client team members in support of both capital and operational improvement projects. The position requires implementing sound engineering principles to ensure project designs are safe and at the industry's cutting edge. An ability to work independently, self-motivate, and communicate effectively with team members is of the utmost importance to this position.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and design SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for solar energy sites, ensuring reliable monitoring and control of electrical infrastructure.
  • Engineer communication architectures for SCADA networks, integrating inverters, meters, weather stations, and protective relays.
  • Design and configure SCADA software, including PLC programming, HMI development, and data acquisition protocols.
  • Implement MODBUS, DNP3, and IEC 61850 communication standards for seamless system integration.
  • Work closely with power distribution, substation automation, and grid interconnection teams to ensure SCADA system compatibility.
  • Develop one-line diagrams, motor load lists, termination schedules, and panel schedules for electrical systems.
  • Conduct short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and grounding studies to optimize system safety and performance.
  • Specify and design electrical transformers, MCCs, switchgear, motors, cables, and protection systems.
  • Support commissioning and testing of SCADA and electrical systems at solar sites, both remotely and on-site.
  • Collaborate with clients to troubleshoot and resolve power quality (PQ) issues.
  • Travel up to 25% for project site visits, client meetings, and system commissioning.


Requirements

Experience
  • Five plus (5+) years of experience in electrical engineering
  • Experience with wind/solar power generation is strongly preferred

Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution or equivalent experience is required.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 Scale.
