We are currently looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Power Production team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Manager, Projects and Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing and implementing capital projects, specifically related to Tufts Cove Generating Station and NSP's Combustion Turbine generating sites across Nova Scotia.

The successful candidate will join Nova Scotia Power's team of dedicated professionals, whose goal is to exceed our customer's expectations in delivering reliable and cost-effective energy and services.

As an Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for the following:

Primary Accountabilities:
  • Project Management:
    • Ensure safe execution within defined schedules, scopes, and budgets.
    • Implement processes and procedures to support successful project completion.
    • Identify and engage necessary resources to complete projects effectively.
    • Supervise employees and/or contractors working on assigned projects, as applicable
  • Engineering Support: Provide support to operations and maintenance personnel at Tufts Cove and Combustion Turbine sites across Nova Scotia.
  • Technical Expertise: Offer expertise on generators, motors, switchgear, breakers, control systems, instrumentation, and other equipment.
  • Reliability Programs: Manage reliability and asset integrity programs for major electrical equipment in plants.

Secondary Accountabilities:
  • Outage Support: Assist during maintenance outages, unplanned outages, and troubleshoot electrical issues.
  • Training: Provide training and guidance on electrical equipment and related procedures.
  • Documentation: Update and maintain critical technical drawings, documents and reports.
  • Work Environment: Foster a work environment based on mutual trust and respect, ensuring all work is carried out safely and effectively.

You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

Educational & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Must be a registered member or eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • Minimum of 5 years in an industrial environment, preferably within a generating environment.

Skills & Additional Requirements:
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment.
  • Exceptional safety record.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Commitment to personal development.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Willingness to travel and provide after-hours consultation and emergency power restoration work.


Personal Attributes:
  • Leading projects to replace or refurbish electrical equipment.
  • Maintenance and overhaul of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
