Description:
The Electrical General Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily electrical
construction activities on energy infrastructure projects. This role ensures that high-voltage
(HV), medium-voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems are installed safely, on
schedule, within budget, and in compliance with industry standards and project
specifications. The Electrical General Foreman manages field crews, enforces safety regulations,
ensures quality control, and supports the Electrical Superintendent in delivering successful
projects across power plants, substations, transmission & distribution (T&D), renewable
energy (solar and wind farms), and oil & gas facilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Installation & Supervision
Oversee daily electrical installation activities, including switchgear, transformers,
circuit breakers, conduit, cable trays, grounding systems, and control panels.
Supervise power distribution, protection systems, motor control centers (MCCs),
and relay installations.
Ensure the proper execution of wiring, terminations, electrical connections, and
grounding.
Monitor testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
Ensure solar PV modules, inverters, and battery storage systems are installed
according to design specifications for renewable energy projects.
2. Safety & Compliance
Enforce OSHA, NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety), NEC (National Electrical Code), and
NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) regulations.
Conduct daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), arc flash protection, and PPE
usage.
Oversee safety measures for energized and de-energized work to prevent electrical
hazards.
Investigate and report any electrical-related safety incidents or near misses.
3. Crew & Workforce Management
Supervise electricians, linemen, cable installers, control technicians, and electrical
subcontractors.
Assign daily tasks to field crews based on project priorities and deadlines.
Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and performance evaluations for electrical
craft workers.
Monitor crew productivity and adjust labor allocation to optimize efficiency.
4. Equipment & Material Coordination
Oversee the operation and maintenance of megohmmeters, multimeters, relay test sets,
infrared cameras, and cable pullers.
Ensure proper delivery, handling, and installation of electrical components and
materials.
Track and manage inventory of cables, transformers, panels, conduits, and electrical
fittings.
Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure material availability and prevent
delays.
5. Quality Control & Inspections
Conduct on-site inspections to verify compliance with electrical blueprints, schematics,
and project specifications.
Work with QA/QC teams to oversee insulation resistance testing, continuity checks,
and voltage drop assessments.
Ensure all electrical components meet design specifications, tolerances, and
performance requirements.
Address and resolve electrical punch list items and installation issues before project
handover.
6. Scheduling & Coordination
Work closely with the Electrical Superintendent and Project Manager to maintain
project schedules.
Monitor work progress and adjust crew assignments, workflows, and schedules as
needed.
Report any installation challenges, material shortages, or equipment failures to
leadership for resolution.
7. Communication & Reporting
Provide daily progress reports to the Electrical Superintendent and Project
Manager.
Document workforce hours, completed tasks, equipment usage, and material
consumption for reporting and payroll.
Communicate safety concerns, design changes, and operational challenges to
supervisors and engineers.
Attend project coordination meetings to discuss upcoming tasks and resource needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: 8+ years in electrical construction, with experience in energy projects
(renewables, power generation, transmission & distribution, oil & gas).
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (trade certifications or technical training
preferred).
Certifications:
o OSHA 30 (mandatory).
o NFPA 70E Certification (Electrical Safety).
o Journeyman or Master Electrician License (preferred but project-dependent).
o Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP) (preferred).
o First Aid/CPR Certification.
Skills:
o Strong knowledge of high-voltage, medium-voltage, and low-voltage power
distribution.
o Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, one-line diagrams,
schematics, and relay settings.
o Experience with electrical testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
o Strong leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
