Work setting: Hybrid position (2/3 days on-site) and up to 25% domestic travel

Role Overview:

The Electrical Project Engineer in this role is responsible for designing the balance of plant electrical equipment and systems for onshore wind, solar, and storage projects throughout the Americas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design of Balance of Plant (BoP) packages during development and construction.
  • Provide engineering support during pre-construction, construction, and turnover to Operations.
  • Ensure grid code compliance and meet interconnection requirements.
  • Specify and evaluate major balance of plant electrical equipment.
  • Conduct power system modelling and studies.
  • Coordinate project engineering topics during construction.
  • Manage 3rd party engineering consultants.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Incorporate the highest levels of health, safety, and environmental standards into designs.
  • Support the development of electrical engineering standards.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering processes and procedures.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • An advanced degree (Masters) is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one state is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical balance of plant design, construction, or operations within commercial power generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Experience in renewable generation project design, such as wind turbines, solar PV, and BESS storage, is preferred.
  • Proficient in transmission design, substation design, collection and distribution design, major equipment specification, power system studies, and system protection and control.
  • Always promote and prioritize safety.
  • Possess knowledge of electrical power systems and equipment, particularly in relation to technical support for the construction and operation of wind power projects.
  • Ability to develop and assess solutions to problems and provide recommendations and support for implementation.
  • Work closely as part of a team, including local and global electrical engineering teams, as well as the wider asset management team.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and customers from various disciplines, including development, construction, operations, regulatory compliance, and procurement.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and make informed decisions on discipline-related issues.
  • Adapt to tasks and prioritize work as needed, sometimes within short timescales.
