Electrical Project Engineer

The Electrical Project Engineer at Taghleef Industries, Inc. will play a crucial role in our continuous improvement efforts and production development, leading new innovative capital projects. This position requires a blend of technical expertise in industrial electrical power distribution systems and operations, as well as project management skills to introduce state-of-the-art technologies and equipment into the company.

This individual will be responsible for developing and maintaining electrical distribution systems for 13 KV, 2.4 KV, and 480 V industrial applications, as well as leading the introduction of state-of-the-art technologies, work systems, equipment, and new products into the company.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support infrastructure, system, and other regional process engineering projects related to the improvement of production processes.
  • Perform system calculations and studies for electrical power systems including load flow, voltage drop, motor starting, short circuit studies, relay coordination studies and Arc Flash studies
  • Review and check all assigned power installation drawings for compliance.
  • Develop technical specifications to support the selection of major electrical equipment.
  • Facilitate power quality studies, capacity studies, remediation of failed equipment, short circuit and load coordination studies and control system strategies.
  • Apply design knowledge in power distribution, grounding, lighting, control systems and equipment specification and selection in accordance with current National Electric Code and NFPE70E.
  • Studying technical feasibility and capital cost of proposed changes.
  • Preparing a design basis for projects, based on engineering studies, high-end computer modeling and simulation, economic evaluations, and consultations with Manufacturing, Research & Development, and other contributing groups.
  • Providing the necessary project documentation to run the project to approved budget/scope of work.
  • Reviewing technical documents, equipment standards, and performance for compliance with engineering principles, customer requirements, and related specifications.
  • Leading new equipment start-ups in the production plants and training the production teams.
  • Solving equipment problems working closely with production staff on new or existing operations.
  • Supporting new equipment installation qualifications, continuous improvement activities, and resin formulations development.
  • Improving key performance metrics (i.e. Operations rate, yield, etc.).
  • Specifying and conducting acceptance tests on equipment purchased from vendors.
  • Implementing lean manufacturing techniques and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Providing day-to-day production support.
  • Performing other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering required; Master's in Electrical Engineering highly preferred (Chemical Engineering, or Industrial Mechanical Engineering considered with the right experience).
  • 5+ years of electrical design/engineering or project management experience in manufacturing desired.
  • 1-2 years' electrical design experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in plastics extrusion manufacturing preferred.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification and/or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Polymer background preferred.
  • Strong leadership and result-driven skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, including summarizing and presenting data.
  • Ability to effectively diagnose and solve problems independently and within team settings.
  • Creativity and initiative in attacking and seeking out improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives and goals.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with teams across departments and plants, as well as with customers.
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Autodesk ACAD, and discipline-specific software applications.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and wear all required PPE.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
