Location: Palo Alto, CA 94303

Description:

Array Labs is building a constellation of satellites to create the first accurate 3D map of the world. Our formation flying radar satellites offer a revolutionary new approach to Earth observation, delivering unique and unparalleled insights of our planet, and we need the help of an experienced hardware test engineer.

The hardware engineering team at Array Labs is responsible for the analysis and design of our satellite and ground-station electronics, which spans the range of radar, communications, power management and processing subsystems.

As a test engineer, you will own the test and validation of hardware solutions that will be integrated into satellites and cutting-edge ground infrastructure. You will work cross-functionally with our antenna, RF, communications, electrical, and radar engineers to rapidly bring up, qualify, and test components and systems from clean-sheet designs to full operational deployment in space. You will be instrumental in producing trusted hardware, software, and automation to help build, test, and fly next-generation imaging technology.

In this role, you'll help shape the design of the world's first formation-flying radar imaging constellation, which will deliver a quantum-leap in humanity's ability to rapidly and comprehensively understand our ever-changing world.

Responsibilities:
    • Develop test solutions for in-house developed avionics hardware products which will fly to space
    • Write automation software to interact with units under test, test equipment, instrumentation, and production documentation systems
    • Bring up and debug new subsystems and testbeds with responsible engineers
    • Analyze test data and provide recommendations for improvements
    • Participate in design reviews and provide input on testability
    • Maintain test equipment and facilities
    • Improving our testing capabilities by finding ways to catch bugs before they manifest in production and prevent them from happening again

Basic Qualifications:
    • Proficient working in the lab with oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and logic analyzers
    • Proficiency with programming and automation/scripting languages or ability to quickly learn them (i.e. Python, C++, SQL, MATLAB) and navigating Linux terminals and file systems
    • Familiarity with design tools for schematic capture
    • Strong technical documentation skills, including report writing and test result documentation and storage
    • Familiarity with software defined radios
    • Familiarity working with and debugging complex systems (transceivers, SerDes, FPGAs, power management, etc...)

Preferred Skills and Experience:
    • Experience analyzing circuits and developing functional test plans
    • Board rework experience, specifically surface-mount soldering & hot-air rework
    • Experience operating in a contamination- and ESD-sensitive environments
    • Embedded software expertise, bare-metal (no-OS), RTOS-based, and Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) libraries for ARM-based microcontrollers or SoCs
    • Experience with system verification and validation, experience in root-cause test failures to ensure issues are understood and develop and implement mitigations as part of a process of continuous improvement
    • Bring-up and test of RF, power, and electronics subassemblies
    • Basic knowledge of RF system architecture and impairments or hands-on experience working with RF circuits and RF test equipment
    • Experience in space systems and environmental testing such as vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, and TVAC
    • Understanding of sources of measurement error and how to implement appropriate mitigation strategies

ITAR Requirements:
    • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
