Job Objective:
Serves as the elementary school's head administrator and instructional leader. Implements strategies to elicit continuous improvement and student achievement through systematic implementation of research-based strategies and data analysis. Ensures educational programs will be responsive to each and every student and prepare them for future success. Establishes an on-going system for continuously improving our learning communities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Ohio Principal's License.
Prior classroom teaching experience.
Documented evidence of a clear criminal record.
Credentialed in OTES (Ohio Teacher Evaluation System) and OCES (Ohio Counselor Evaluation Systems).
3-5 Year Admin Experience
Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position:
1. Directs the effective delivery and continuous improvement of academic programs. Serves as the building's lead instructional leader.
2. Develops performance goals and a strategy to accomplish approved objectives within specified time lines.
3. Maintains effective communications with staff to resolve problems and sustain progress.
4. Upholds board policies, follows administrative procedures and complies with the Employee Code of Conduct. Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.
5. Promotes a favorable image of the school district.
6. Participates as an active member of the district's leadership team. Helps develop and implement the district's continuous improvement plan. Implements a building leadership team. Ensures that teacher-based teams are functioning collaboratively and effectively.
7. Keeps current with the grades 1-5 state standards, the district's scope and sequence framework, and state guidelines.
8. Administers the board-approved budget. Ensures that collection and dispersal procedures are properly documented. Authorizes the purchase of essential program supplies and equipment.
9. Processes and approved building payroll. Ensures the accuracy of time and attendance.
10. Enforces applicable Ohio Revised Codes. Administers policies regarding age, immunization, attendance, legal residence, guardianship, classification, promotion, retention, testing, etc. Oversees enrollment and withdrawal procedures.
11. Oversees the timely submission of reports, records, and inventories. Maintains district records for the maximum period mandated by law and/or board policy.
12. Supervises the collection, entry, and verification of educational management information and student data (e.g., EMIS, etc.) as directed.
13. Promotes the effective use of available technology in instructional and records management activities.
14. Participates in staff selection and orientation processes. Arranges and participates in interviews. Makes staffing recommendations to the Director of Human Resources.
15. Promotes the development of staff leadership. Provides leadership in the planning of staff programs.
16. Develops a master schedule. Ensures the equitable distribution of workloads and extra assignments.
17. Provides for classroom coverage during teacher absences.
18. Prepares and distributes a school calendar. Observes established school hours.
19. Monitors staff performance. Completes all staff evaluations as assigned in accordance with District policy and state law.
20. Oversees building testing and student evaluation procedures. Analyzes test results. Provides staff direction for the continuous improvement of the instructional program.
21. Updates and oversees the distribution of student/parent and teacher handbooks.
22. Communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student progress.
23. Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code.
24. Helps teachers with discipline issues. Processes discipline referrals. Works collaboratively with parents to resolve discipline issues. Prepares student conduct and discipline recommendations for the superintendent's consideration.
25. Implements a building-wide Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Program.
26. Oversees the supervision of building activities (e.g., student arrival/departure, loading buses, parking lots, lunch periods, hall duty, etc.).
27. Implements procedures to protect school property and help ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students, staff, and visitors.
28. Keeps emergency preparedness plans up-to-date. Responds to building emergencies as requested.
29. Provides for the supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of special events and extracurricular activities.
30. Works with special education staff to ensure the provision of services mandated by state and federal law. 31. Participates in IEP meetings and serves as the District Representative as requested.
32. Encourages parent organizations and supports student activities as time permits.
33. Oversees the timely submission of reports, records, and inventories. Maintains district records for the maximum period mandated by law and/or board policy.
34. Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
35. Maintains visibility and participates in school activities as time permits.
36. Encourages parent organizations and supports student activities as time permits.
37. Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
38. Builds community partnerships that enhance district programs and services. Builds positive relationships.
