POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The elementary level school administrator creates an inclusive environment where all students, families and staff are welcome and valued. They support curriculum, instruction and assessment and ensure that district expectations are implemented within the classroom and as a school community overall. The school leader integrates continuous school improvement into the culture of the school and supports the success of each student and staff member. They are skilled at monitoring program goals and objectives and set high expectations for all. The school leader is responsible for conducting personnel evaluations that reflect district and school goals and objectives, cultural competency in classroom performance and student achievement. In collaboration with the school community, they create effective procedures and practices for the school. In accordance with school district policies and legal requirements, a school leader also works with budgets and allocates funds in alignment with goals and objectives for the most effective and efficient building or program services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Michigan Teaching certificate preferred.
  • Valid Michigan Administrator certificate
  • Meets administrator continuing education requirement
  • Possess an advanced degree, Masters Level or higher, from an accredited institution with emphasis in educational leadership, school administration and/or curriculum or other related field
  • Five years successful teaching and/or administrative experience at the elementary level
  • Demonstrated building leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership that results in teamwork and collaborative working relationships
  • Knowledge and experience in curriculum development and instruction
  • Experience with practices that support students with IEPs, 504 Plans and English Learners
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from educators and community members
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in leading restorative practices at the building level
  • Familiarity or experience with PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support)
  • Experience leading the MTSS process
  • Background and experience leading a school building while supporting a district or county wide center-based special education program within the school
  • Knowledge of educational testing, assessment, research, and program evaluation
  • Experience providing leadership in the development of innovative approaches to address the diverse needs of students
  • Experience supporting all aspects of the integration of technology to support curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning
  • Evidence of engaging in creative and innovative evidence-based practices and possess a willingness to take professional risks to improve opportunities for students
  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervises the building educational program including assigned district level specialized programs
  • Ensures excellence, equity, and access for all students through a lens of culturally responsive practices
  • Takes primary leadership role in school improvement leadership
  • Assumes responsibility for curriculum and intervention implementation at the building level
  • Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board and District policies and regulations by the building staff and students
  • Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum as instructed by the Teaching and Learning Department
  • Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and classified personnel attached to the school including all resource and service personnel while functioning in the assigned building
  • Assists in the screening, hiring, training, and assigning of the building staff
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant
  • Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in absence of the principal
  • Evaluates building staff and makes appropriate employment recommendations
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to the due process rights of students
  • Supervises and evaluates the building extracurricular programs
  • Assists in the orientation of teachers and staff
  • Supervises the preparation of all school reports for the Central Administration Office
  • Makes recommendations concerning the building administration and instruction
  • Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students
  • Assists in the preparation of the school budget and is responsible for its management
  • Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students
  • Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interprets activities and policies of the school board, and encourages community participation in school life
  • Takes responsibility for special conferences between parents and teachers
  • Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program
  • Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned

    SALARY RANGE: Elementary principal salary range $87,273 - $119,609 (2023/24)
    Salary commensurate with background & experience. 44-Week Position.
    Full year salary will be prorated based on start date

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
