PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS
Individuals serving in this capacity are expected to adhere to the Knowledge and Performance indicators of the adopted Professional Teaching Standards for Burbank School District 111, and the Illinois Performance Standards for School Leaders.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as an educational leader within the district, responsible for implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Board of Education to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe, child-centered learning environment that meets and exceeds the State Core Curriculum Content Standards, following the approved curricula and directives of the district. Achieving academic excellence requires that the District Principal work collaboratively to lead and nurture all members of the school community and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and schools. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, extracurricular activities, personnel management, financial management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling, and facilities operations.

Illinois Professional Educator's License (PEL) with Proper Endorsement
Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Educational Leadership or related area
Minimum five year's successful teaching and/or administrative experience at the elementary school level preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The employee is responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students and teachers. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be noisy, active and busy at times.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and may be required to lift and/or push up to 50 lb. The employee is required to use close vision, distance vision, and depth perception and be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.
Mental/Motor Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. - Demonstrate an educational philosophy providing instructional leadership in developing an educational program of high student achievement that engages the learner in analytical and critical thinking, addresses the range of skills and developmental needs found in the classroom, encourages the student to define individual goals and accept responsibility for learning, and provides a variety of methods for the student to demonstrate performance and achievement.
- Improve instruction through the planning, operation, and evaluation of the educational program.
- Evaluate Teacher's performance on a timely basis including documenting observations, informal feedback and utilizing the formalized performance management system to address individual achievements and identify areas of development.
- Promote and maintain strong parental and community involvement, responding to parents, students and staff concerns in a timely manner.
- Administer the school program in accordance with district philosophy, policies, objectives and state laws ensuring a safe, efficient and effective learning environment for students.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, displaying the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.
- Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
- Manage time and schedule flexibility that maximizes teacher schedules and learning.
- Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
- Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.
- Attend workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies.
- Adhere to all district and building health and safety policies.
- Understand that job responsibilities may vary related to each building's needs.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, administrative guidelines, or specific program requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all laws, administrative codes, Board polices and regulations, including Affirmative Action mandates.
- Collect and analyze data regarding the needs and achievement of students.
- Establish the master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students that meet and exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards.
- Perform duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee

- Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to researched-based instructional strategies that engage all students.
- Educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives for reading, writing, literacy development, and math, and the educational trends and research findings pertaining to learning assessment and diagnosis
- Behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution procedures
Ability to:
- Design and deliver quality professional development for administrators and teachers
- Support teachers in development of differentiated lessons
- Demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate people.
- Assist teachers, in a collaborative model of observation, conversation, and lesson demonstration, to analyze and reflect on their practice to promote quality instructional practices.
