Flossmoor School District 161 is starting the search for a new Principal for Western Avenue School to begin working with our school community on July 1, 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified, exceptional, and experienced educational leader to provide high-quality instructional leadership at an elementary school located in the southern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. District 161 serves nearly 2,300 students from the communities of Homewood, Flossmoor, Chicago Heights, Hazel Crest, and Olympia Fields. The Principal leads a K-5 staff with four sections at most grade levels, an Assistant Principal, two reading specialists, a full-time social worker, speech pathologist, Gifted teacher, two Special Education teachers, an ESL teacher, and an instructional coach.

The diverse student body is provided with comprehensive and high quality programs to ensure students are well prepared for high school, college, and careers. Students are afforded opportunities to succeed with challenging academics and numerous extracurricular opportunities. The school has implemented Capturing Kids' Hearts for social-emotional learning and has consistently been rated Well-Organized on the 5 Essentials Survey. Western Avenue and District 161 are supported by a highly qualified and talented faculty and a committed Board of Education.

Salary Range: $105,000 - $135,000 annually

Education, Licensure, & Experience:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with the General Administrative endorsement
  • Previous Administrative Experience
