The Scarsdale Public Schools seeks a talented, experienced, and innovative educator to lead an engaged and connected learning community at Greenacres Elementary School. The school spans grades K-5, and offers a rich and varied educational program to the high-achieving student population of approximately 350 students. The school community boasts an accomplished faculty and staff of 45, along with an active, supportive parent body. Greenacres Elementary School focuses on developing the whole child including academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, and social-emotional well being. Essential Functions
The position of Greenacres Elementary Principal requires a leader with an extensive teaching and administrative background and a demonstrated record of accomplishment. The successful candidate for Principal will exhibit the following criteria:
  • Possess a thorough understanding of elementary education and the development of young learners
  • Foster and nurture strong and authentic relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Be visible in the classrooms, hallways, and other spaces where students and teachers learn.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of diversity, equity and inclusion, and communicate effectively with individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Exhibit effective instructional leadership, guiding and supporting faculty in the implementation of teaching practices.
  • Encourage and facilitate parent, faculty, staff and student engagement in the Greenacres School community.
  • Arrive at decisions through fair-minded collaboration.
  • Create an environment that fosters mutual respect among students, parents, and teachers.
  • Be a strong advocate for children.
  • Hold, or be eligible for NY State SAS, SDA, SDL or SBL certification.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Work Schedule
Standard administrator work schedule as set forth in the Administrative Unit Contract.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to develop and implement projects.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work

Certification/License:
  • New York State Certification in SAS, SBL, SDA, and/or SDL

Education
  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Administration.
  • Doctorate, or other planned program in related field preferred.

Experience
  • A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level, preferably in more than one grade level.
  • Successful administrative experience at the elementary school level is preferred.
