The ED Manager ensures that the nursing team demonstrates optimal nursing practices supported by current evidence-based practice and maintains constant and continued dedication in the development of nursing services to promote excellent patient centered care at Twelve Clans Unity Hospital.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the WCHS Mission, Vision and Values; respectful of Tribal beliefs, culture and traditions.
- Provide direct supervision and oversight of nursing staff and support staff within the hospital Emergency Department.
- Oversee Trauma Level 4 Designation Program.
- Oversee Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program.
- Ensure nursing staff completes a comprehensive orientation to obtain in-depth knowledge of medical equipment located in the Emergency Department; also ensure the nurses are thoroughly and adequately trained, possess core competencies and demonstrate proficiency in using the equipment to ensure appropriate care for patients.
- Oversee implementation of an effective, continual program to measure, analyze and improve the quality of nursing care, treatment and services essential to patient care.
- Encourages staff development by advising and coordinating continuing education to maintain and increase nursing skills and knowledge.
- Knowledge of current Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as it relates to services provided by the facility.
- Ensure nursing staff documents health records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure all nursing staff administer medication in accordance with the physician's orders and complies with medication guidelines.
- Develop, review, and approve all Emergency policies and procedures, to include nursing standards of care, treatment and nursing practices to align with current evidence-based practices.
- Communicates and participates in the multidisciplinary quality improvement program and develops appropriate emergency department performance improvement metrics.
- Follow and adhere to HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Work with quality area to develop and maintain quality improvement metrics to enhance facility operations and patient care.
- Schedule departmental meetings with nursing staff.
- Prepare and analyze statistical reports in an effort to improve patient access to care.
- Conduct patient satisfaction surveys.
- Create, develop, and assign the nursing staff schedule to ensure adequate coverage of the Emergency at all times.
- Prepare and review position descriptions for departments when necessary and as needed.
- Monitor nursing compliance with mandatory trainings.
- Ensure all nursing staff licensure and certifications are current.
- Ensure information requested for patient grievances is completed within designated time frames.
- Review and approve timecards timely for scheduled payrolls
- Assist in the hiring process of new staff, complete annual performance appraisals, provide guidance when necessary, and recognize staff for a job well done; encourage feedback promote teambuilding to support each other and the organizations vision, mission, and values.
- Assist in preparation and monitoring of annual departmental budgets.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Establish good working relationships with all departments within the facility.
- Ability to make decisions in matters of significance.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Currently licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Nebraska or possesses a multi-state licensure in a nurse licensure compact state.
- Minimum of associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional nursing experience, preferably in an Emergency Room setting.
- Preferred 3-4 years of leadership experience in an Emergency Department or another area in the healthcare field.
- Current Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within first year of employment.
- TNCC preferred; training provided.
- Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) preferred; training provided.
Physical Requirements:
- Normal to light office work that includes the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office and medical equipment.
Cognitive Requirements:
- Ability to effectively read, write, and perform needed calculations
- Above average social skills and the ability to interact with all age groups
- Ability to reason and analyze when circumstances warrant.
- Ability to work with minimal to no supervision
Language Requirements:
- Possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
- Continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
- All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
