Boreal Veterinary Centre is seeking Emergency veterinarians to join our team. Emergency veterinarians are the cornerstones of the ER service and leaders of their team on shift.

The job description below lists the principle responsibilities of the job position but is not all encompassing. The responsibilities of an Emergency Veterinarian at Boreal Veterinary Centre are:
  • Care for hospitalized patients under the care of the emergency department.
  • See outpatients presenting to the emergency department for care.
  • Perform physical examinations on patients of the emergency department.
  • Communicate with referring veterinarians to facilitate transfer of cases to the emergency department.
  • Create estimates for costs of treatment for inpatient and outpatient cases.
  • Communicate costs of treatment to owners and present options for care.
  • Create treatment orders for inpatient and outpatient cases.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests including bloodwork, urinalysis and radiographs.
  • Communicate with owners regarding resuscitation status prior to admission to the hospital.
  • Communicate risks of treatments and diagnostics with owners.
  • Establish a veterinary patient client relationship and gain informed consent prior to treatment.
  • Maintain a basic knowledge of cases in the hospital under your care during following rounds to allow for intervention if emergencies arise.
  • Maintain up to date medical records.
  • Communicate with owners regarding changes to medical status or prognosis.
  • Provide effective rounds to facilitate transfer of cases between veterinarians.
  • Update owners regarding finances as the responsible veterinarian and establish consent for ongoing care prior to the end of your shift if at the end of the estimate.
  • Complete discharge notes prior to patients leaving the hospital.
  • Work a variety of shifts to allow for 24 hour coverage.
