Alberta Health Services invites applications for an Endocrinologist with an interest and/or additional training in Diabetes in Pregnancy to be based at the Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) located in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. The Diabetes in Pregnancy clinic at SCH is a multidisciplinary clinic with a team of physicians, nurses and dietitians.

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada's premier academic medical institutions and is recognized among the world's top 100 medical schools. The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine is internationally recognized as among the world's top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada's premier health-education institutions.

The successful candidate will join a group of endocrinologists in a division which has excellent clinical facilities. We have a Royal College approved resident training program and easy access to dynamic testing and the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.

The academic division's research collaborations span basic, clinical and community-based research. Current areas of strength include Diabetes, Obesity and Nutrition, Lipid Metabolism, Cardiovascular Disease and Exercise Physiology. Many of these collaborations are established through the Alberta Diabetes Institute , which houses dry and wet labs as well as an 8000 square feet clinical research unit (BodPod, DEXA, Whole Body Calorimeter) and a 1500 square feet exercise lab. The ADI provides a number of core services and administers a range of funding opportunities (pilot grants, studentships, post-doc fellowships).

Responsibilities:

The successful applicant is expected to participate in service commitments of two half days per week in the Diabetes Clinic. The skillsets required for the applicant are knowledge and experience in diabetes in pregnancy and insulin pump therapy, being an excellent communicator, and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment. It is expected that the clinic providers pursue regular professional activities to bring the most up-to-date treatment modalities to the clinic. The successful applicant may also be involved in outpatient clinical teaching services, and outpatient clinical nonteaching services.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent and be certified in Endocrinology/Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada .
