This position is the Assistant District Engineer position within the Engineering Support Section, located at District Six in Milan, New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?

Position will serve as an Assistant District Engineer (ADE) for the Engineering Support Section within District 6. Position will manage the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) and Design Programs to assure timely delivery of their engineering product, which has a significant impact on the overall organization and its objectives and coordinate and manage the administration and oversight of the District's Traffic, Technical Support Sections and Local Government Support Programs.

How does it get done?

Position will manage the District's Technical Support Section to include the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) and Design Programs, manage and provide oversight for the District's Local Government Support Programs, and manage and provide oversight to the District's Traffic Section.

Internal Department of Transportation Employees, Tribal Entities, Governmental agencies, and other entities.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, licensure in accordance with the Engineering and Surveying Practice Act and twelve (12) years as an Engineer with experience in a management function. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling sixteen (16) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Office of the State Engineer only: Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, licensure in accordance with the Engineering and Surveying Practice Act and twelve (12) years as an Engineer with experience in a management function. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling sixteen (16) years may substitute for the required education and experience only. A Master of Science degree in a relevant Engineering discipline may substitute for the Professional Engineer licensure.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are required, employment also requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and employment is conditional pending results. Registration as a Professional Engineer by the New Mexico State Board of Registration for Professional Engineer and Land Surveyors by date of hire.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in office/field in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain, and snow. May include exposure to: sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; highway speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; heavy lifting; sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also include being performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours or emergencies on short notice; willingness to accept change or geographical assignments; interaction with the public, local, county schools and city officials by phone and in person. Frequent/extended periods of travel and overnight travel maybe required.
