POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position will support multi-year U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers environmental projects primarily in the Western U.S. area. Projects commonly involve investigation and remediation of sites with groundwater and soil impacted by emerging contaminants (PFAS), chlorinated solvents, and petroleum compounds as well as abandoned mine lands.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring field operations are conducted in a safe manner in accordance with project specific Site Safety and Health Plans / Health and Safety Plans.
  • Support environmental engineering, restoration, and civil engineering tasks on complex projects that may include surface water hydrology, impoundments, pumping stations, and permitting.
  • Construction oversight may include onsite quality management of civil, mining, and environmental aspects related to site reclamation.
  • Providing remedial system operations and maintenance services.
  • Performing / conducting field subcontractor oversight inclusive of drilling, waste transportation and disposal, and heavy equipment operation.
  • Managing / leading field teams for collection of water, soil, and soil vapor samples utilizing various sampling techniques.
  • Preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, SSHP/HASPs, technical memoranda).
  • Potential 25-50% travel within the U.S. (predominantly in western U.S.) as needed to support projects.

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience with environmental field investigation and remediation projects.
  • Prior experience contributing to the preparation of technical reports, memoranda, and work plans.
  • Coordination of field subcontractors for environmental investigation and/or remediation activities.
  • Collection of water, soil, and soil vapor samples utilizing various sampling techniques.
  • The above-described experience on a CERCLA, DoD, DOE, EPA, or RCRA project/site.
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field related to Environmental Studies such as: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment and be able to work in various levels of PPE including a respirator, if required.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.


WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT
  • Experience developing engineering designs using CAD software.
  • Experience working on U.S. federal contracts.
  • Experience with remedial system design.
  • Experience preparing engineering technical specifications.
  • PFAS sampling and remediation experience.
  • Experience with western U.S. lithology and boring/well depths.
  • Preferred 4 years of field related and/or report writing experience.
  • M.S. degree in engineer field related to Environmental Studies or related field.

  • EIT Certification (or capability to test and pass FE exam within one year) or Registered PE (or capability to obtain registration within one year), depending on experience.
