ENGINEER I/II- TRANSPORTATION
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Civil Engineer with a focus on Transportation to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing highway and bridge infrastructure projects, including roadways, intersections, pavement markings, signage, traffic signals, culverts, and bridges.
In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals on municipal transportation projects, preparing design reports, conceptual plans, design plans, and calculations. As an Engineer I, you will report to a Project Manager or Principal, taking responsibility for developing impactful and efficient designs for transportation engineering projects.

The rate for this position generally ranges between $70K - 117K annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employees already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
- You earned a BS in civil engineering or a related field, and have at 4 to 8+ years of relevant experience - or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Professional licensure (PE) is required
- You're proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and/or other industry best programs, as well as the Microsoft Office Suite
- You have a strong comprehension of the design guidelines and standards of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).
- You have strong interpersonal skills and communicate effectively both verbally and via written correspondence
- You have an aptitude for juggling multiple projects concurrently without losing sight of crucial details
- You can understand and carry out complex technical oral or written instructions
- Experienced in working with NYSDOT CADD Standards.
CORE DUTIES
- Prepare and design plans for new and/or rehabilitated transportation systems (highway and/or bridge), or parts of systems
- Diagnose roadway problems and identify modifications that can improve traffic flow and increase safety
- Ensure conformity to industry standards and best practices by reviewing construction plans and calculations for designs and cost estimators
- Prepare design reports that are administrative, technical or statistical in nature
- Prepare technical reports for traffic studies
- Prepare concepts and final designs for turn lanes, intersections, sidewalks and pedestrian facilities
- Develop horizontal and vertical alignments and prepare proposed cross sections
- Provide conceptual designs for bicycle facilities and complete streets
- Assist in the development of roadway details and special provisions
- Work Collaboratively with other team members, consultants, and our clients.
- Proactively assist Project Managers, Project Engineers and Principals
- Provide technical support during project construction, including reviewing plans, conducting site inspections, and resolving engineering issues. Mentor and support junior team members in developing their technical skills.
- Develop and review engineering designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure high-quality deliverables that meet client expectations and project objectives.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients by understanding their needs, providing regular updates, and delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions.
- Delegate and provide oversight for the work assigned to Engineering Designers or interns
