  • Role and Responsibilities
      • FinOps Engineer Role: Focus is on supporting the cloud and FinOps practices. The role involves owning aspects of the expense for applications, ideally ones with at least $500,000 annual expense.
      • Automation and Engineering: Emphasis on engineering and automation, especially as the organization moves toward platformization.
    • Responsibilities:
    • Bridge the gap between engineering and finance teams.
    • Support cost management and financial tooling, working on high-scale deployments.
    • Support and help mature the FinOps practice, driving cost optimization strategies.
  • Collaborate with other line-of-business units to bring scalable, cost-effective solutions.
  • Skill Set and Experience
    • Cloud Experience:
    • Primary Focus: Azure and GCP environments (open to AWS experience).
    • Key Skills: Knowledge of cloud architecture, cost optimization, and engineering practices.
  • Experience with cost management tools like Azure Advisor, AWS Cost Explorer, and GCP billing. Experience with Cloudability is a plus (although not explicitly mentioned in the job posting).
  • Automation & Scripting:
  • Experience with Terraform is essential. Other scripting languages like PowerShell, Ansible, and CLI (GCP CLI) are also valuable.

      • Collaboration: Must be able to work closely with multiple business units and help unify cost-saving efforts across different parts of the organization.
      • Stakeholder Management: Ability to communicate with and influence stakeholders within the business, particularly those leading line-of-business units.
    • Success Factors:
    • Cost savings: A key success factor, though not the only one.
    • Volume of cost-effective solutions: How many cost-effective architectural patterns and solutions the candidate can help deploy.
    • Customer Relationship: Developing relationships within the organization to understand business needs and improve FinOps processes.
  • Discovery & Innovation: Identifying new patterns and methods for cost-saving and getting them implemented across the organization.
  • Desired Background and Experience
      • Industry Experience: While prior experience in retail or finance can be useful, the focus is more on scale and the ability to handle complex, large-scale cloud environments.
      • Architectural Expertise: At least 5 years of cloud architecture and cost optimization experience, with an emphasis on cost-effective engineering and scalability.
      • Geographic Redundancy: Awareness of geographic redundancy and managing large-scale operations responsibly.
  • Certifications
      • No formal certifications required for FinOps or cloud platforms (Azure, GCP). Certifications are seen as nice-to-haves but not mandatory.
