This position is with the Traffic Section.
Why does the job exist?
This position will assist the District Traffic Engineer with issuing driveway permits, utility permits, special event permits, reviewing traffic control plans, issuing sign orders and placement, issuing striping orders, and using contract maintenance funds effectively. Provide technical support to the district concerning traffic issues.
How does it get done?
Assist with processing Driveway, Special Event and Utility Permits. Assist the Traffic Engineer with the Districts Traffic Program to include but not limited to signing, pavement markings, lighting and signals, and metal barrier. Support Department and Traffic objectives by assisting the Traffic Engineer with developing and maintaining a traffic studies program.
Who are the customers?
Traveling public and pedestrians.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in:
- Highway maintenance and/or construction
- Permits, striping, guardrail
- Traffic control and traffic studies
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and four (4) years of engineering experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be licensed by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office and field setting. Work extended hours and occasional travel required. Exposure to inclement weather and traffic. Extensive video terminal use. Ability to meet multiple deadlines; interact with the public and vendors.
