The Engineer will support to the COLUMBIA Class (CLB) Submarine Program's Design for Affordability (DFA) group. The PMS397 DFA group works with the lead design yard and key stakeholders for the CLB program to identify, develop and track cost reduction initiatives in the design, construction and maintenance phases of the submarine life cycle. This position requires technical and business/financial management skills. Technical responsibilities include the ability to understand submarine design, construction and maintenance initiatives in order to perform the tasks listed below. Business financial management responsibilities include management of the banker's scorecard, which tracks the total amount of savings accumulated through the DFA program.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Managing the end-to-end DFA process by receiving DFA initiatives from the lead design yard, parsing them out to technical and programmatic stakeholders, ensuring that the DFA battle-board status remains current, coordinating bi-weekly VTCs to discuss the initiatives with internal and external stakeholders and writing the ensuing conference reports.
  • Collecting information from the lead design yard, compiling it into metric data and, most importantly, analyzing the data to highlight key takeaways to leadership.
  • Attention to detail is crucial in this role since products have a direct impact on the financial success of the program.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to compile engineering and financial reports requiring minimal rework
  • Technical degree required, engineering degree preferred
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office programs
  • Secret security clearance

Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with submarines is a plus
