Description

ALTIVIA is seeking a Utilities and Systems Engineering Manager for our Institute, WV facilities, which produce ketones and additives and provide site services for tenant companies. This role will oversee and enhance utility systems at the plant while collaborating with tenant companies to ensure reliable and efficient shared services.

As a key member of the site leadership team, you will drive improvements, implement innovative solutions, and optimize utility operations. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong technical expertise in utility systems, process design, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for system reliability, infrastructure optimization, and mentoring junior engineers while actively leading process improvements and capital projects in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utility Systems Management: Oversee steam generation, cooling systems, compressed air, nitrogen, and waste treatment to ensure safe and reliable plant operations.
  • Process Design & Optimization: Lead detailed design, process simulation, and equipment selection for new and existing utility systems.
  • Capital Projects: Support the design, scope, and execution of capital projects, including new distillation and control system upgrades.
  • PSM & Compliance: Ensure Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance, lead Management of Change (MOC) processes, and maintain documentation.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve engineering challenges in piping systems, heat exchangers, boilers, and process control systems.
  • Mentorship & Development: Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, maintenance, and tenant companies to improve operational efficiency and reliability.


Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
  • 10+ years of experience in process and utility system engineering within a chemical or industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in process design, including PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, and process simulation.
  • Experience with utility system design and optimization, including steam, cooling water, air, and wastewater treatment.
  • Hands-on experience in piping design, heat exchangers, distillation, and process safety systems.
  • Familiarity with PSM-covered processes and regulatory compliance in chemical manufacturing.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead engineering problem-solving efforts.


Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience managing capital projects from scope development to execution.
  • Proficiency in Aspen Plus, HTRI, Pipe-Flo, or similar engineering software.
  • Knowledge of reactive chemistry and its impact on utility system design and operation.
  • Working experience with control system interfaces, process automation, and data analysis tools.
