SUMMARY

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the design concept to construction ready for warehousing and transportation solutions. This may range from basic, highly manual pallet in/out operations to complex omni-channel operations which may include automation solutions (i.e., conveyance, sortation and robotics)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Process and value stream design and mapping; assess the effectiveness of processes currently in place.
  • Solid understanding of financial aspects of business for all methods of pricing (i.e., management fee, unit rate, storage and handling, and alternative methods) and utilization (or creation) of pricing models to cost a solution.
  • Space planning and layout design with ability to extensively use CAD.
  • Oversee various projects including but not limited to, business expansion, WMS upgrades, continuous improvement.
  • Upholds the company's reputation by delivering innovative solutions while adhering to local and national regulations (fire suppression systems, security, building coding,
  • Partner with cross-functional and external teams (i.e., real estate, information technology, operations, transportation, human resources, accounting, etc.) to ensure quotes on pricing are all-inclusive.
  • Liaison with vendors and/or contractors to define, bid, negotiate, storage and material handling equipment.
  • Analyze and interpret client data and perform information gathering onsite visits to customers (or perspective customers) with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Present information to various audience, including but not limited to, internal leadership, external clients and vendors in a way that clearly articulates the proposal and commands their confidence.
  • Use basic and advanced calculations to determine the current and potential productivity of a process.
  • Create viable solutions for a variety of challenges to improve production or to reduce waste, the ability to develop a plan to overcome the problem is important.
  • Use analytical skills to evaluate progress of projects and interpret data to create reporting to the company decision-makers.
  • Research and test design ideas to determine feasibility, utilizing lean manufacturing, kaizen, Six Sigma, and root-cause analysis to formulate and support innovation, corrective actions, and improvements.
  • Identify opportunities for preventing waste and inefficiency during production.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and technological upgrades.
  • Design the layout of facilities and determining personnel requirements.
  • Partner with technical subject matter experts to develop the detailed technical process flow, business, architecture, integration requirements and decision points for the WMS solution.

MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES

Special Projects Assist in companywide activities associated with the department.

Knowledge Skills, and Abilities
  • Five or more years of experience in engineering
  • In-depth understanding of lean manufacturing principles
  • Proficiency with analytical tools, workflow time studies, and process balancing
  • Ability to collaborate with project managers, manufacturing leads, customers, and to provide daily direction and guidance to project team.
  • Knowledge of WMS concepts (Receiving, Put away, Replenishment, Slotting) Allocation, Picking, Packing, Task Management, Shipping, and Invoicing.)
  • Advanced experience with CAD, Microsoft Access, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Warehouse and/or Manufacturing execution software (WMS, WES, ERP, LMS, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or mechanical engineering and PMP Certification. Must have sound interpersonal skills and be able to work efficiently in a team.

Travel

Travel will be required approximately 30% of the time.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and correspondence. Effective communication/comprehension skills - verbal and written.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to physically count, add, subtract, multiply and divide.

REASONING ABILILTY

Ability to define problems establishes facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
