Position Overview:

The Freddie Mac Enterprise Operations & Technology (EO&T) division is seeking an Engineering Technical Lead to provide Data Center Networking engineering services working with its Freddie Mac partners.

The Engineering Technical Lead will be an active part of a team of Network Engineers providing services within the Data Center Network Engineering team comprising of seasoned network engineering resources focused on base enterprise data center network technology stack (Switching/Routing, Firewall, Load balancers and Network-based services). You will be engaged with teams delivering next generation innovation and automation solutions in alignment with agile and Modern Delivery methodologies within Freddie Mac with focus on Network, Security, Cloud integration and evolution of highly available networking/cloud operating environments supporting end user and business critical application workloads.

Technical Leadership
  • Introduce the modern network operating model within Enterprise Operations and Technology division for WAN, Campus and Data center Network technologies by defining and establishing the Infrastructure as Code principles.
  • Design and deploy next gen software defined data center networking capabilities across the enterprise for routing/switching (Ex: Arista, Cisco, VMWare NSX-T), firewall (Ex: Palo Alto, DFW, AlgoSec), and Load balancer technologies (Ex: F5 and Avi) and associated core network services such as DNS (Ex: Infoblox)
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Network Delivery and Network Operations groups to ensure new and existing solutions are compliant with enterprise standards
  • Own and drive development and maintenance of detailed solution intent, product design for a responsible ARTs (information, application, technology, security and deployment viewpoints) that addresses functional and non-functional requirements and ensures alignment in implementation of Data Center Network technologies.


Your Impact:

Data Center Network Engineering Lead
  • Drive the engineering design, standards, and end-to-end solution documentation of the data center network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance including (but not limited to) Arista, F5, and Palo Alto Networks products, with a focus on Next-Generation technologies.
  • Work with delivery engineering and network operations teams for smooth transition of network technologies deployed in the environment.
  • Implement and configure routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF) and switching technologies (e.g., VPN, VxLAN, Spine-Leaf topology, 802.1Q, VRF, L2) to support diverse applications and services.
  • Develop automation scripts using Ansible and/or Python to streamline network provisioning, configuration, and monitoring tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand networking requirements and provide effective solutions.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis to resolve incidents promptly.
  • Participate in capacity planning, network security and disaster recovery strategies and document relevant SOPs / Visio for network repositories.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in data center networking and automation.
  • Mentor junior members in the operations team and engineering teams.
  • Identify alternative network solutions and/or new technologies to meet new business needs or solve existing business concerns, such as customer experience, operational efficiency, performance and cost effectiveness
  • Participate in pre-deployment, deployment and post-deployment activities to ensure successful network solution deployments
  • Participate in incident resolution process to help troubleshooting, identify issue resolution and impact assessments
  • Document configuration and security standards for Data Center network technologies.
  • Work with Architecture team and help build design blue prints for reusability and accelerated adoption of new architectural standards/patterns


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in IT Network Engineering, Network Security and/or Operations.
  • Proven experience as a Network Engineer with a focus on data center routing/switching, load balancers, and firewalls.
  • Expert knowledge of automation tools such as Ansible, and programming languages like Python is big plus.
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting equipment from major vendors (e.g. Arista, Cisco, F5, Palo Alto, and Network Services in AWS VPC).
  • Strong understanding of routing and switching protocols (BGP, VXLAN, EVPN, Spine-Leaf topology)
  • Expertise in network monitoring and management tools (e.g., NetBrain, Thousand Eyes, SNMP, NetFlow, syslog)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills to work closely with both technical and non-technical collaborators.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex subject matter, especially translating technology issues and solutions to collaborators.

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $145,000 - $217,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
