Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), Pavement Management and Pavement Design Bureau's day-to-day operations including personnel and programs therein.
Day-to-day operations include development, design and review of structural pavement thickness for NMDOT maintenance, rehabilitation, and reconstruction projects.
Provide oversight of pavement management: the assessments of both current and future pavement conditions, establish methodology and procedures for collecting pavement data.
Why does the job exist?
Provide support for Pavement Management System database to include data entry and analysis, quality assurance review of pavement distress data to ensure accuracy and research and development of Annual Certified County Maintained Mileage Reports.
How does it get done?
-Update project construction history in Pavement Management System (PMS) database.
-Provide quality control assistance during pavement data collection by implementing procedures explained in the NMDOT Pavement Distress Data Quality Management Plan. Conduct quality
assurance/quality control to determine the accuracy of the pavement condition data collected by the pavement condition data collection contractor.
-Support pavement management by performing scenarios, budgeting and input of key data elements, and developing Pavement Condition Reports.
-Provide assistance for FHWA Highway Performance Management System (HPMS) submittal including construction history data and pavement distress data.
-Manage Pavement Bureau County Road Certification Program.
-Learn and implement pavement engineering design fundamentals, provide technical pavement design support for NMDOT districts and design centers.
-Provide direction and review/audit the work done by engineering technician staff.
-Take training pavement and related courses provided by New Mexico Technician Training and Certification Program (TTCP)

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas:
Interpreting construction plans and drawings.
Pavement condition distresses, pavement preservation, rehabilitations and reconstruction.
Pavement Management System applications.
Experience in pavement engineering design fundamentals.
Asphalt mix design computations.
Working with Microsoft Office software to produce reports and/or spreadsheets; and Testing field materials.
Training and certification in New Mexico Technician Training and Certification Program (TTCP).
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and eight (8) years of relevant experience, two (2) years of which must be supervisory. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business/Personal Reference check and Driver's License verification are required and employment is conditional pending results.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in office/field in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain, and snow. May include exposure to: ' Sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to ' Moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; ' Exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; ' Highway speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; ' Falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; ' Heavy lifting; sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; and dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also include being performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours or emergencies on short notice; frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required; willingness to accept change or geographical assignments; interaction with the public, local, county schools and city officials by phone and in person.
