ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Solano Community College English program teaches writing, critical thinking, reading, and research skills as they apply to the areas of composition, creative writing, and the analysis of literature. Course work in creative writing is presented in sequenced writing workshops and courses in literary publishing for the student-produced Literary Magazine The Suisun Valley Review. Course work in Literature explores diverse writers from around the world through genre, survey, figure, and thematic courses. Courses cross-listed with Ethnic Studies include surveys of African American Literature and Multi-Ethnic American Literature.
We want instructors who care about students, about pedagogy, and the future of our community. We are looking for an individual willing to take risks to achieve those goals.

The ideal candidate will be inspired by and prepared to serve the diverse student population of Solano County. We are looking for someone who is eager to contribute to a departmental culture of innovative teaching and join our ongoing work of building a vibrant, caring college community that supports all students.
Our new colleague will be an excellent teacher who shows a genuine commitment to inspiring students' critical reading, writing, and thinking. This person will demonstrate an ability to engage learners from a diverse range of abilities and identities. They will be knowledgeable of effective composition and culturally responsive pedagogies. Successful applicant will:
The position will also require providing instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations, preparing and grading assignments and examinations, meeting administrative timelines and submitting required documents and reports, participating in division meetings, coordinating course-level and program-level assessment and planning, and maintaining regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Teaching assignments may include evening hours and off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, and participation in student outreach and recruiting as part of the Division and College-wide services.
We anticipate the first round of interviews to be conducted in-person the week of April 28, 2025. Second round interviews are tentatively set for early May. All dates are subject to change.

The recommended candidate(s) will work in a small office or larger room with multiple people, in a primarily sedentary nature, either sitting or standing. This role will require significant technology use, including long periods of looking at technology screens and entering information using a keyboard and/or mouse. Interruptions are likely in large room settings and in small office settings. Frequent use of online meetings using Zoom or Microsoft Teams with webcam on. Phone and email will be required to communicate with all campus communities. The recommended candidate(s) must utilize vision (near) to write and to read printed materials and computer screens; utilize hearing for ordinary and telephonic conversation and to hear sound prompts from equipment; utilize manual and finger dexterity to type/keyboard and/or utilize mouse and otherwise operate a computer and other office equipment.

- Have experience with and a dedication to supporting all minoritized populations, including African American, Filipino, and Latino students.
- Work in collaboration with other full-time instructors of the English Department in coordinating curriculum and mentoring adjunct faculty.
- Actively participate in department/school meetings, college governance, and decision-making.
- Lead and support program improvement through staff development, curriculum development, program review, and collaborative assessment of student learning.

- Work in collaboration with other full-time instructors in coordinating curriculum and mentoring adjunct faculty in these courses.
- Participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLO) and Program Level Outcomes (PLO).
- Actively participate in department/school meetings and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies; participate in college governance and decision-making.
- Participate in college-wide committee work and collegial governance.
- Maintain current knowledge and skills in Chemistry.
- Maintain effective communication with peers, staff, students, and administrators.
- Teaching assignments may include evening and weekend hours, either in-person or online, as well as off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Liberal Arts.
