Palos School District 118 is seeking a dedicated English Learner (EL) Coordinator to support the district's Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) and Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) Programs for students in preschool through eighth grade.
This role includes assisting teachers in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), ensuring high-quality instruction for English Learners (ELs), and overseeing program compliance with state and federal guidelines. The EL Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Teaching & Learning and play a key role in fostering an inclusive, language-rich learning environment for multilingual students.
Key Responsibilities:
12-month position with flexible remote work during school breaks. Minimum salary of $90,000 (negotiable with experience). Board paid TRS, health, vision, dental and life insurance. 12 sick leave, 3 personal and 20 vacation days. Cell phone and travel allowances.

The EL Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Teaching & Learning and play a key role in fostering an inclusive, language-rich learning environment for multilingual students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the district's TPI and TBE programs, ensuring alignment with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requirements and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Support teachers in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to implement best practices for EL instruction, including differentiated strategies and data-driven decision-making.
- Provide coaching and professional development for teachers on research-based strategies for language acquisition, culturally responsive teaching, and EL instructional best practices.
- Assist in identifying, assessing, and placing students in appropriate language support programs using state-mandated assessments (e.g., WIDA Screener, ACCESS for ELLs).
- Collaborate with administrators and teachers to develop curriculum and instructional resources that support both English language development and academic achievement.
- Guide teachers in utilizing formative and summative assessment data to monitor EL progress and tailor instruction to meet students' language needs.
- Serve as a liaison between the school district, families, and community stakeholders to support family engagement and communication regarding EL programs.
- Coordinate and oversee compliance reporting, grant applications, and funding utilization for EL services.
- Stay informed about current research, policies, and best practices in English learner education, and share relevant updates with staff.
- Advocate for equitable access to resources and support services for EL students across the district.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) and Bilingual Education, per Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requirements.
- Master's degree in TESOL, Bilingual Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience working with English Learners in a PreK-8 setting.
- Strong understanding of language acquisition theories, bilingual education models, and state/federal EL policies.
- Experience leading professional development and coaching teachers in best practices for EL instruction.
- Knowledge of WIDA standards, ACCESS testing, and EL assessment tools.
- Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and multilingual families.
- Experience as an EL Coordinator, Instructional Coach, or EL Program Administrator.
- Bilingual in Arabic, Polish or another language represented in the district.
- Familiarity with Illinois School Report Card indicators for ELs and Title III funding.
