POSITION DESCRIPTION
Are you ready to take on a new job that provides a perfect platform to grow yourself and your career? HGL (HydroGeoLogic, Inc.) currently has a position open for an experienced Environmental Engineer III to serve on various environmental remediation projects throughout the United States.
As an Engineer III, you will work with our high performing HGL Team and be responsible for supporting HGL's portfolio of environmental remediation projects for the USEPA, USACE, NASA, and various agencies across the United States and territories. Initial duties will include providing remedial design support as well as oversight of remedial action (RA) projects acting as HGL's Client Representative during the RA phase of construction. Projects may include mine-waste cleanup, remediation, contaminated sediment removals, in situ thermal treatment, demolition, landfill cap construction, and groundwater treatment (both in-situ and pump-and-treat) and stabilization projects.
Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm although some projects work varying hours. This role will work in either our Atlanta, GA office or Overland Park, KS office on a hybrid work schedule.

The salary range for this position ranges from $71,868-$107,801. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
This is a great opportunity to support various complex projects throughout the US.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing engineering studies, plans, designs, and specifications for the remediation of environmental contamination.
- Developing cost estimates, construction work plans, and project schedules for remedial construction.
- Providing engineering support for preparation of feasibility studies, engineering evaluations/cost analyses (EE/CAs), and pilot study designs.
- Interfacing with program and project managers, senior technical staff, the government customer, and RA Contractors.
- Review of specifications, drawings, work plans, and ongoing construction activities to assure compliance.
- Communicating and coordinating with the HGL Construction Group to support varying roles and responsibilities related to ongoing and future projects.
- Reporting observations and compliance with contract documents.
- Determining, communicating, and documenting deficiencies to ensure they are corrected in a timely manner.
- Preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, SSHP/HASPs, technical memoranda).
- Understanding of remediation construction site health & safety (H&S) hazards.
- Potential 50% travel within the U.S. as needed to support projects.
Required Skills
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
- Minimum of 6 years of directly related experience in the environmental industry, specifically related to environmental remediation and restoration.
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering field related to Environmental Studies such as: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Strong technical writing and documentation experience.
- Ability to develop remedial design documents that are technically sound and accurately reflect the project approach and requirements.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently.
- Ability to conduct completion inspections, document project status and maintain records.
- Familiarity and experience with working at remediation and/or large construction project sites.
- Ability to prepare daily reports documenting activities and findings.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to comfortably engage with varying levels of leadership, RA Contractors, subcontractors, internal and external stakeholders, etc.
- The above-described experience on a CERCLA, DoD, DOE, EPA, or RCRA project/site.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software, specifically in Excel and Word.
- Ability to work in a group setting with corporate, project, and technical management staff.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT - Preferred, not required
- Familiarity and working knowledge of large-scale soil excavations, backfill, site grading, and restoration activities.
- US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) CQM certification preferred, not required.
- Experience working with USACE and EPA clients.
- Experience with the preparation of engineering technical specifications.
- Experience with storm water pollution prevention best management practices and procedures.
- Performing engineering calculations (e.g. stormwater runoff, volume/quantity takeoffs, sizing of drainage features such as culverts and open channels, and determining armoring required for erosion protection).
- Experience with AutoCAD design drawings for excavation and consolidation of contaminated materials/soil, and associated site grading and stormwater management.
- OSHA 40-hr. and 8-hr. HAZWOPER Training.
- Master's degree in engineering field related to Environmental Studies.
- EIT Certification (or capability to test and pass PE exam within one year) or Registered PE (or capability to obtain registration within one year), depending on experience.
