We specialize in multiple areas of the value chain:
Field employees work to calibrate equipment, program and automate systems, and perform instrumentation and equipment work on client sites.
Lab employees take samples that have been collected in the field and run a multitude of tests for environmental factors and quality of the product. We also have a blending lab that works to create the chemicals that other companies use to calibrate their analytical equipment.
The Production Analytics team audits existing field structures and design, balances our client's entire systems, and allocates royalties to maximize profits.

SPL is expanding our footprint internationally in the production, midstream, finished products, and environmental markets. We are also focused on developing industry-leading automation and data analytics tools that will help our customers ensure the integrity of their data.

Job Summary:

The Laboratory Manager must be team oriented, proactive and goal driven. This position will oversee the daily operations of the SPL Environmental Laboratory. Will use independence and judgment to recognize and resolve problems within established policies and procedures and is accountable for the quality, timeliness and accuracy of own work and the work submitted by employee's assigned location

Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily operations of an Environmental laboratory. Works with all laboratory departments to ensure work is processed in accordance with client requirements. This includes staffing, equipment, training, systems access, and appropriate workspace
  • Overseeing worksite safety, including ensuring adherence to all OSHA requirements and internal policies; identifying potentially hazardous conditions and addressing them promptly.
  • Works closely with local and corporate Sales staff and Project Management to continually develop new and existing business.
  • Ensuring high quality data for the department is produced in accordance with published methodologies, EPA methods, Standard Methods, and standard operating procedures.
  • Actively participate in the laboratory's Quality System.
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of the Wet Chemistry Department including management of all personnel and capital resources available to successfully meet client and laboratory turnaround times (TAT).
  • Responsible for creating an environment of "teamwork" to maintain appropriate retention rate of staff members
  • Perform technical review of existing and new methodologies, SOPs and provide appropriate input to the lab management.
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and standards to meet requirements.
  • Ensure that quality assurance and quality control programs for laboratory analysis and instrumentations are properly developed and maintained.
  • Maintaining safe working conditions and a clean, orderly work area at all times.
  • Coordinates and supervises all staff ensuring all required safety procedures are consistently met.
  • Ensure the department follows SOPs and methodologies without deviation.
  • Maintain accurate knowledge of defined areas; keep abreast of state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • This is a very safety sensitive position and accuracy, and dependability are critical to the success of the role.

Requirements

  • A minimum of four years of experience in an environmental laboratory.
  • At least 3 years' experience as a Department Manager, Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, or Project Manager preferred
  • General chemical, biological, and physical laboratory testing methods and procedures, including qualitative and quantitative analyses.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound and balanced judgment in day-to-day decision-making
  • Strong commitment to quality and integrity.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable of the principles and processes of the QA Department.
  • Reviews in-house quality Assurance SOPs to ensure the analytical departments are operating in a manner which produces legally defensible data for laboratory clientele.
  • Must be willing to treat others with cooperation and respect and able to understand and value both internal and external customers.
  • Strong Customer/Client interaction skills and experienced in client contact; able to create innovative solutions to customer challenges
  • Multi-tasked, organized, detail oriented, and possess excellent problem-solving capabilities
  • Must have good time management capabilities
  • Must be able to prioritize and schedule daily work assignments using LIMS.
  • High energy level, confidence, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Diligent work ethics and the ability to lead the team
  • Must be able to perform duties under pressure arising from large sample volumes, short holding-times and fast turn-around times
  • Must have a strong commitment to ensuring all work is completed within prescribed deadlines.
  • Keep laboratory equipment repaired and ensure preventive maintenance is up to date.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers
  • Must be capable of working irregularly scheduled hours, overtime, nights and weekends

Education:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in chemistry, or a closely related field.

Relocation:

This position is not eligible for relocation.

Travel Requirements:

This position does not require travel.

Work Schedule:

This position will work 8 hours, Monday-Friday in the Plano, TX Office. This position is subject to after-hours and weekend availability to meet deadlines.
