NEG-US Glass Fiber includes the former PPG Glass Fiber business unit in the Americas, as well as Sales and Marketing resources that import products from other NEG locations. The NEG acquisition of PPG's US Glass Fiber operation was completed on September 1, 2017. The US operation has been in existence since 1959 and includes two manufacturing sites in North Carolina (Shelby, NC and Lexington, NC). There is also a Research & Development site in Shelby, NC and a Sales/Business office in the Pittsburgh area. In total, NEG-US employs close to one thousand people in a wide variety of commercial, technical, manufacturing and business roles.

The Glass Fiber Division manufactures a range of thermoplastic and thermoset compatible direct roving and chopped strand products, along with continuous strand mat, multi-end roving and wet used chopped strands. These products and NEG's technical and commercial resources support a wide range of applications in the market - including transportation, wind energy, oil and gas piping, infrastructure and construction. NEG's glass fiber is used as the primary reinforcement in these applications.

Job Function:

The incumbent provides leadership and technical expertise for the Lexington and Shelby, North Carolina Fiber Glass sites in the EHS areas and has primary responsibility for directing and coordinating all environmental programs. The incumbent ensures sustainable compliance with all permits, federal, state and local regulations. This requires working closely with senior management, regulatory agencies and consultants to ensure on going compliance for Air, Stormwater, Wastewater and Waste programs through timely submittals and accurate reporting. These programs include but are not limited to Title V, NPDES, SARA, RCRA, and eGGRT (US EPA Greenhouse Gas). The incumbent will be the primary contact for agency inspections and resource for spill response.

Specialized or technical proficiency in environmental programs, combining a broad understanding of involved practices or principles is required. Performs complex technical work. Possesses complex problem-solving skills and ability to motivate others in a cooperative effort. Involved with variable situations requiring analytical, interpretive, evaluative and/or constructive thinking.

The incumbent develops and implements EHS management systems and coordinates EHS training for all staff and personnel. The employee has daily contact with senior management, manufacturing, engineering, maintenance personnel and contractors.

Requires:

  • Minimum of B.S. Degree in sciences or engineering disciplines with 5 years of related experience.
  • Self-initiating individual possessing a high degree of leadership
  • Demonstrates strong background in environmental regulation
  • Strong communication and human relation skills
  • Ability to maintain on-going relationships with State and Federal regulatory agencies
  • Communicate with outside technical and legal consultant, local government officials, neighbors and Corporate and Fiber Glass staff
