As an Environmental Professional 3 you are front-line subject matter expert of Environmental projects and sub-contracts that will require waste sampling, transportation, treatment and disposal operations across the extensive footprint of Los Alamos National Laboratory. As an Environmental Professional, the selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing and monitoring the performance of current and newly established subcontracts in accordance with terms and conditions of the Department of Energy (DOE), Laboratory, and site-specific requirements.
Provide technical guidance to Waste Management (WM) personnel on specific assignments by providing the resolution of technical questions arising in assigned subcontract. Manage the timely completion of all WM related corrective actions. Interface with Field Engineers, Design Engineers, Project Managers, Subcontractors, other WM team members and Triad Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Evaluate Field Change Requests (FCRs), Requests For Information (RFI) and Non-Compliance Reports (NCRs).

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post-graduate coursework may be desirable.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated commitment to implementing safety, security, environment and quality objectives and requirements
- Basic work experience with a laboratory or R&D plant/facility that generated multiple waste types
- Advanced knowledge and experience of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to the handling and management of solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes within a permitted Treatment and Storage Facility (TSF).
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, interact, and work with internal customers as well as with Federal, State, and local agencies
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with handling, characterizing, packaging, and/or transporting solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
- Advance knowledge of established Acquisition Services Management (ASM) Division and Waste Management Division policies and procedures.
- Basic experience and knowledge communicating major elements of waste management processes, policies, and procedures to technical and non-technical personnel
- Will be expected to complete Authorized Shipper qualifications.
- Ability to obtain DOE 'Q' Clearance, which typically requires U.S. Citizenship.

- Active or transferable Q clearance.
- Knowledge of LANL's organizational structure, technical areas, and facilities.
- Experience and knowledge of LANL's waste management policies, practices, and procedures.
- Current or previous qualification as a waste professional in a Department of Energy facility.
- A CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) certification is desired.
- A completed Authorized Shipper certification is desired.
- Experience using WCATS (Waste Compliance and Tracking System).
- Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel especially).
