Job Description:
Parsons is looking for a sharp Environmental Technician to join our growing team! In this role you will administer the responsibilities of the Range and Training Land Assessment (RTLA) program at Fort Drum, NY. The overall mission of the RTLA program is to collect and analyze natural resource information and to provide that information to those in command of the Army community, in support of preserving the military's testing and training missions now and in the future. The RTLA program focus' on developing and implementing effective monitoring strategies for assessing the success of land management decisions. Monitor impacts of land use and military training activities on soils and vegetation, conduct data collection and implement several different vegetation sampling techniques in the field.
This is a temporary full-time position, not to exceed four months (2 Jun 2025 - 29 Sept 2025). Employees will work 40 hours per week, typically 7:00am to 5:30pm Tuesday through Friday.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 0+ years of related experience (i.e. vegetation sampling, conducting forest inventory, etc.)
- A minimum of one year of course work in botany, forestry, biology, natural resources, or a related field is required
- Knowledge of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and land navigation with a map and compass
- Must pass MVR and maintain legal driving capabilities both on and off post
- A valid driver's license is required
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/BA degree in botany, biology, ecology, natural sciences, or a related field is desired
- Demonstrated knowledge of vegetation sampling protocols and plant taxonomy
- Candidates with coursework and/or experience in plant taxonomy and identification, natural resource sampling and monitoring techniques are preferred
- Knowledge of the dendrology and taxonomy of regional flora and proficiency using dichotomous keys to identify plant species
- Experience in or on military installations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a tolerance for biting insects and tick exposure
- Ease with working under adverse field conditions (temperature, humidity, long hours in the field, insects, etc.)
- Applicants should be in good physical condition, willing to work long hours outdoors in all types of weather conditions and terrain, and able to work cooperatively with others in a team environment
- Must be able to bend over, climb terrain and climb in and out of vehicles. May drive an ATV or truck
- Must be able to walk, stand or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to reach arms above head
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability and willingness to use appropriate PPE, to include DEET and Permethrin treated clothing to repel biting insects and ticks
- Use of PPE to include long sleeves, bloused boots or pant legs taped and conducting check for ticks each time you leave the field during tick season
