Description

The Epic Principal Trainer at Riverside Healthcare is responsible for mastering both the Epic application and Riverside Medical Center-specific workflows. The Principal Trainer plays a crucial role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the training program for assigned Epic applications. This includes participating in workflow design, understanding system builds, and coordinating training logistics to ensure seamless knowledge transfer to end-users. The ideal candidate will lead training efforts, develop comprehensive training materials, and support new implementations, contributing to successful Epic system utilization throughout Riverside Healthcare. Available Epic applications include: EpicCare Inpatient Procedure Orders and/or EpicCare Ambulatory.

Essential Duties

Training Program Development:
  • Design and develop role-based training programs that support the workflows to be implemented.
  • Lead the development of training materials, including e-Learning modules, instructor-led training guides, and reference materials.
  • Prepare training scenarios and set up the Epic Training system for hands-on training, including creating simulated patients for realistic practice.

Epic Application and Workflow Expertise:
  • Master the assigned Epic application as well as Riverside-specific workflows, processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in workflow design and system build sessions to gain in-depth knowledge of system functionality and workflow design rationale.
  • Obtain and maintain Epic certification in the assigned application module, ensuring continuous knowledge of new updates and functionalities.

Training Coordination and Delivery:
  • Coordinate training logistics, including scheduling courses, managing classroom availability, and organizing registration in collaboration with the project team and department managers.
  • Train end-users, including clinical and non-clinical staff, on Epic system workflows, ensuring that all employees are equipped to use the system efficiently.
  • Train newly-hired employees as part of their orientation and provide ongoing training for system updates and new releases.

Training Environment Maintenance:
  • Develop and maintain the training environment to align with the overall training strategy and approach.
  • Update training scenarios, training patients, and other environment settings as necessary to keep training relevant and consistent with the live Epic system.

Demonstrations and End-User Support:
  • Provide demonstrations of system functionality to staff, project stakeholders, and leaders as needed.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert during training sessions, troubleshooting any questions related to system use, workflow, or process.
  • Train and supervise Supplemental Trainers, ensuring consistency and quality in training delivery.

System Documentation and New Releases:
  • Maintain system documentation, ensuring training materials and guides reflect the current system environment.
  • Coordinate and deliver end-user training for new Epic releases, keeping users informed about system changes and enhancements.


Non-essential Duties
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing handouts and supporting materials for training sessions.
  • Participate in meetings with application workgroups, providing input on training needs during workflow changes or system updates.
  • Assist in developing project communication materials related to system training and end-user readiness.
  • Assist in updating internal documentation and procedures related to the Epic system for different department workflows.


Requirements

Required Experience
  • Proven experience working as a user of a clinical or operational software application.
  • Ability to develop training materials, including e-Learning modules, required.
  • Ability to coordinate training logistics effectively, including managing course schedules and resources.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences in training.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a project team and independently manage training programs.
  • Organizational skills to manage training schedules, participant records, and course materials.

Preferred Experience
  • Familiarity with Riverside Medical Center workflows, processes, policies, and procedures is preferred.

Required Licensure/Education
  • If a Registered Nurse (RN), must have completed a nursing program from an approved school of nursing.
  • Obtaining and maintaining Epic certification in the assigned application module is required throughout the implementation project and for subsequent updates.

Preferred Education
  • Education in a related field is desired.
