POSITION SUMMARY
This position is accountable for ensuring successful management and completion of special projects related to marine equipment machinery and tools that are transported or made available to the jobsite employees to complete project work. The incumbent also ensures proper maintenance storage and warehousing of equipment tools and materials. Typically, this individual will work closely with the VP of Operations, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Construction Manager, Superintendents, Mechanics, Foremen, skilled and semi-skilled craft workers.
The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork most importantly with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
EMPLOYEE SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of ten (10) years Concrete construction/yard experience or equivalent training/experience in a marine construction supervisory capacity is required. Incumbents must be well-versed in receiving and handling of equipment used for marine operations. In addition, incumbents must have knowledge of the integration of various crafts and equipment required to successfully perform their work. Craft knowledge should include heavy equipment maintenance, piledriving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting, and related areas.
The incumbent must also 1) be well organized in order to effectively oversee several projects simultaneously 2) be able to hold Foreman and their crews accountable for safe work practices and work performance excellence 3) be able to influence and motivate Foreman and members of their project teams and 4) possess excellent communication skills.
This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management including corporate.
The Company expects and requires incumbent and each of its other employees to observe and fulfill the above and all other safety responsibilities and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management including corporate.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works closely with the Management and Superintendents to develop and carry out strategies for equipment utilization on projects.
- Works with members of the Project Management team in the forward planning of the equipment needs for upcoming projects.
- Coordinates with the Project Management team to ensure that equipment needed for the project arrives at the jobsite when it is needed.
- Coordinates with all vendors, suppliers, sub-contractors, customers, clients, and project management team members to address all logical issues that may arise.
- Solves problems as required on construction equipment issues and problems that arise in the equipment department.
- Helps Project Superintendents and Foremen meet construction project deadlines and make sure that project work is completed on time.
- Attends weekly Project Manager meetings to discuss job progress, equipment status, and any problems that are currently being encountered.
- Ensures that all equipment is receiving regularly scheduled maintenance and is part of a preventive maintenance program to ensure longer equipment work life.
- Implements department objectives and strategies to maintain an effective equipment and marine program within the boundaries of the department policy and world-class safety standards.
- Attends Equipment utilization meetings to monitor progress on the various on-going projects.
- Provides direction to shop facilities including staffing, training, administration of department wages, organization's structure, performance review of personnel, and recommending promotion and transfer of staff to ensure department success.
- Manages and directs effective maintenance and repair, oil sampling, equipment safety programs, and equipment utilization on company projects to ensure Company performance and safety goals are met.
- Assists management team with final equipment budgets and potential equipment purchases in order to meet area budgetary goals.
- Holds all subordinate employees accountable for complying with Orion Marine Group Safety Policies and mandated regulatory guidelines.
- Identifies and purchases new and used equipment at equipment auctions that can be used on current or future construction projects.
- Promotes safe work practices and programs and encourages all employees to demonstrate compliance with all Safety policies and procedures.
- Works closely with the Project Managers, Project Superintendents, Foreman, Mechanics, Helpers, and other skilled crafts persons to complete current projects in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
- Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

- Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another and normally involves physically getting onto and off of work barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights and access parameters.
- Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting for long periods of time.
- Adapting to extreme temperature changes.
- Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure.
- Deciphering visual and audible changes in dredging activity.
- Remaining calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident.
